US GUITAR LEGENDS MAGAZINE
This from Greg Gilleland
I picked up a copy of a new "Guitar Legends" magazine by Guitar World; this one is dedicated to our heroes. Some good stories, several interviews reprinted with Page and really lots of good pics. One great one of Bonzo on the maple luds in the studio recording the first album. Just a 4 pc kit, one floor tom not two and two really small (16") cymbals. A great way to read through the holidays!

PAGE AT RIFFATHON 2003
This from Paul
Jimmy Page was one of the judges at the final of the Riffathon 2003 competition on Saturday 20 December, held in Guildford in aid of the ABC Trust. Also on the panel of judges was Brian May. Spotted in the audience was Dave Grohl, who won the bidding for a signed Song Remains The Same print in the auction following the event.
Jimena spoke eloquently about the work of the Trust and Jimmy and the rest of the family appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves throughout.
Brian May described himself as the greatest Led Zeppelin fan in the room.
Jimmy looked fit and well and many years younger than he should! Prior to presenting the prizes, he spoke at length about the joys of playing guitar, and the flexibility of the instrument. He was relaxed and friendly, happily shaking hands with fans and signing autographs.

PLANT ON US VH1 CLASSIC

Once again many thanks for your patience and all the support for the book - this one was a monumental slog and judging by your coments it's all been worth it. The next step is to get TBL#17 on the way - there's some great stuff in the pipeline for that and there's also a couple of significent anniversaries to celebrate early in 2004.

JIMMY AT 60/TBL AT 25:PROPOSED TBL MEET JANUARY 10th LONDON
Talking of which..Jimmy turns 60 on January 9 2004 -Reason enough to celebrate with a TBL meet (as we did ten years back!) - so we are planning on Saturday January 10 2004 at a central London pub - probably The Chandos in St Martin's Lane near Trafalger Sqaure. [We will confirm the venue on TBL/Web nearer the time]. The Page celebrations coincide with the 25th anniversary of the TBL magazine - another good reason to toast the new year in. It would be great to see as many of you that can make it- so make a note of that date and watch the site for more details will follow.
Dave Lewis/Dave Linwood December 15 2003

JIMMY AT 60 - FEEDBACK REQUIRED
As part of TBL's "Jimmy At 60" celebrations - we are looking for input and feedback. We would like you to list your personal favourite top 20 Page performances/tracks covering his entire career - Note that bootleg performances tracks CAN be included!
This would cover his 60's sessions/The Yardbirds/Led Zeppelin /Arms tour/The Firm/Coverdale Page/the MTV Unledded album,Walking Into Clarksdale/Puff Daddy/Black Crowes live album etc.. So alongside the obvious Zep tracks take a look at his whole career to come up with 20 tracks which you think represent Jimmy at his best.
Alongside your choices can you also supply a short 200 words max summary of the reasons for your choices and how his music has inspired you.
Your selections will formulate a special "Jimmy Page-Simply The Best Top 60" countdown to be revealed at the TBL meet on Jan 10 and subsequently on the site and in the mag.
So get rooting through his back catalogue over the next few days, soak up all that great music and collate your Top 20 Jimmy Page Simply The Best listing and e-mail it direct to davelewis.tbl@virgin.net .All contributions need to be received by Jan 5. I look forward to receiving them!

PLANT IN OSLO NOBEL PEACE PRIZE CONCERT
Pix of Plant at the press conference (next to Michael Douglas) can be seeb here: http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=205341.
Robert told the press that he feelt honoured to participate in this celebration of the Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi.

Reports on the gig say that Plant played Darkness Darkness, Going to California, Morning Dew and Imagine. The last song being a massed effort of the John Lennon song with Michael Douglas and his wife on stage. Descibed as a "strange and sensational version" featuring Baggott on Piano, Plant's voice could be easily heard above the efforts of Tim McGrave, Roseanna Cash and other artists from the show.
Thanks Geir Hansen

THE GRANARY CLUB - THE ROCK YEARS 1969-1988
"The Granary Club - The Rock Years 1969-1988" by Al Read has just been published by Broadcast Books. Essentially it's a nostalgic look at the legendary Bristol rock club. But of relevance to TBL readers is a fondly told account (and photos) of Robert Plant's low key apperance at the club in May '81 (billed simply as The Honeydrippers) and the events leading up to it.

PLANT ON WOLF BLITZER: CNN
This from Chris Privett
"On November 29, Robert was a live interview guest on Wolf Blitzer's news program on CNN. They started with some Zeppelin DVD clips, showed some clips from Plant solo videos, and had a long introduction about Plant's recording history. In total, the intro package and interview segment probably totaled 6 or 7 minutes.

Robert came on via satellite, looking pretty good with his hair tied back, not as jowly as he has in recent years. He talked about the Sixty-Six to Timbuktu record and how he dug out some of the older recordings. He said he didn't think of the album as a "greatest hits" collection but rather as a cross-section of his career.

Toward the end, Blitzer asked the old reunion question, and Robert said he didn't think there was any value in re-forming Zeppelin just to satisfy a "tired journalistic question." But he did say that he wouldn't be averse to "sitting down in a room" with Jonesy and Jimmy to see if they could come up with something new and take the music in a different direction."

MORE PLANT IN THE MEDIA

Robert appeared in the UK Sunday Telegraph "Review" Supplement. The author of the article talks about meeting Plant, a bit of Zep history etc. etc., and includes a plug for the new album and HTWWW, a couple of pics, one recent of Plant and another which caption is "The originals are still the best, Plant in 1974 in his Led Zeppelin pomp" (which is actually a pic from Kezar Stadium 2/6/73).
It goes on to mention that Plant is due to play (with SS) at the forthcoming Nobel Peace Prize ceremony (see TBL/Web News Nov 19th). It then says that he plans to "take a break" after this.
Thanks Keith Miller, Ian Coleman.

LEDZEPPELIN.RU
This from Igor Kouvyrkov and Yelena Yeremina
LedZeppelin.Ru is the first Russian magazine to be published about Led Zeppelin. The first edition will be published by be the beginning of December. The idea behind LedZeppelin.Ru is that there are a lot of LZ’s fans in Russia that don't have the opportunity to use internet because it’s still expensive. General music magazines i Russia focus on many great groups but the information about each band is very limited. To counter this the LedZeppelin.Ru fanzine will offer detailed news and articles about Led Zeppelin

THE TIGHT BUT LOOSE FILES/CELEBRATION 2 PUBLISHED
This from Dave Lewis
At long last! The Tight But Loose Files/Celebration 2 book is ready to go. Books came in to the UK this week and should start appearing in the shops i.e. Virgin/Waterstones/Helter Skelter/Amazon etc. over the next few days.
Having lived with it all for so long, I had to resort to some Kronenbourg courage at my local pub to face up to the first look - predictably a few typos got in (i.e. the caption for the BBC Sessions album oops!)....but overall hopefully it stands as a worthy successor to the first volume. It's over to others to judge now, and I welcome any feedback on what you think of it all - Send any reviews/comments which will be considered for a special TBL/Celebration 2 forum on the web/in the next mag to davelewis.tbl@virgin.net.
I'd like to take the opportunity to thank Chris Charlesworth, Mike Warry, Gary Foy and Dave Linwood for all their input and support during the writing of the book.

Pre ordered copies via TBL/Web will be distributed over the next few days - If you want to order the book (personally signed by the author) direct from TBL - go to the link on the TBL home page or use this one http://www.tightbutloose.co.uk/celebration2.html.

The US edition is not being published until early 2004 so this is an opportunity for overseas readers to get the book before then - Note if you pay via Paypal, please pay in UK sterling.

To find out some background details on how the book came together read an interview with Dave Lewis which forms part of the Celebration2 promos:
images_fsnet/Celebration2Flyer1.pdf

A second promo can be seen here: images_fsnet/Celebration2Flyer2.pdf

Celebration 2 is a great way of showcasing the TBL Files as the magazine celebrates its 25th anniversary. So get ready to take the phone off the hook - crack open the appropriate tipple and with the DVD or CD player pressed to play, lose yourself in this compendium of chapters that make up The Tight But Loose Files/Celebration 2 - all designed to take you back to their music with renewed perspective.

PLANT INTERVIEWED ON US TV
This from Paul Coffman
Yesterday morning here in St. Louis, Robert Plant gave a brief interview about "66 to Timbuktu" on KTVI Fox 2 news. The interview was via a satellite hookup from Birmingham, England. Robert mentioned that he got the inspiration from the project while going through archives of his solo materials while working on the DVD project with Jimmy Page. He talked about how the compilation spanned his career before Zep and after Zep. John Pertzborn (morning anchor for KTVI) asked him about the origin of the band "The Crawling Kingsnakes" and Robert said it was the second band he was ever in and the name was inspired by Porky's Revenge since the atmosphere of the movie reflected what most of his life was like. Very tongue in cheek. He seemed excited about the project and mentioned that he played the guitar solo in Louie, Louie.
Tying in nicely with this was an note from Jon Darby referring to a Rehearsal/Recording studio in Birmingham, UK where Robert has been hanging out pretty recently. There's a couple of pictures on the site. http://www.robannas-studios.co.uk

Text is in japanese. Others show Gary Cherone (Extreme/Van Halen) wearing a 1977 tour shirt. Zeppelin songs on the songlist; "WTLB", "NFBM","GTC","CB" and "R&R". In the text there's also mentioning of "D&C" and "HB" but they're not on the setlist.

MORE ON THE HTWWW DVD-A
This from Ken Belcher:
I purchased it yesterday and listened last night in the high resolution audio 5.1 mix. I don't agree with posted review. Jimmy's guitar dominates the right channel no different than the DVD video. That's the side he plays from. If your DVD player is capable of playing DVD audio your in for a real treat. Sounds great.
Others have reported that the tracks are no longer than on the CD - just a misprint (annoying mislabeling or what?)

KEITH EMERSON BIOG
Zep fans might be interested in Keith Emerson's Biog-Pictures of an Exhibitionist.
Keith relates many tales of sex drugs r nr including a couple of meetings with Page/Plant and one memorable night spent in the company of Bonzo in the tax exile days in Montreaux. Apparently Bonham junior pissed over ELP's food on their 1990 tour thus Emerson's comment, "Like father like son!"

UPDATE FROM DAVE LEWIS

This from the Guv'nor

"Firstly can I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has e-mailed me with kind thoughts and support regarding my recent family bereavement - it really has meant a lot to me during what has been a very sad few weeks here. Your understanding and support continues to be a great strength in getting back on track.

THE TIGHT BUT LOOSE FILES/CELEBRATION 2
Well it's nearly ready - books should be in the country by the end of the month. I've been living with this project for well over a year now - it seemed to take on a life of its own as we went along - as usual there was lots of last minute checking/re editing/re writing etc to contend with during July and August - much of it during what was becoming an increasingly difficult time personally here...but it got there and hopefully will stand up as a worthy successor to the first volume.
Once again Mike Warry has come up with a superb design and Omnibus Press and longtime Zep journo Chris Charlesworth has overseen the editing.
John Paul Jones has very kindly contributed a Foreword.

The new volume offers a comprehensive overview of key Zep episodes, coupled with coverage of the subsequent solo activity of the last decade - with material drawn from the pages of the magazine plus newly written pieces.
The objective is to provide a further celebration of the lasting legacy of Led Zeppelin, merging the past and the present in offering a compenduim of Tight But Loose writings that hopefully will once again take you closer to their music..

ORDERING DETAILS:
You can order the book now from TBL via the link on the front page or from here:
Tight But Loose Files/Celebration II Book Ordering and Information.
This is an exclusive offer to own a copy of the book personally signed by the author (that's me!) making it another TBL collectable - prices include postage and packing for the UK/Europe/USA/Australia/Japan.
Payment can be made by cheque or via Paypal.
Books will be despatched as soon as they arrive in the UK - keep an eye on the news pages for updated info.

Overall The TBL Files/Celebration 2 provides a great platform from which to present the key material from the magazine as written during the last 25 years - housing in one volume the development of the group from their early BBC Sessions through to the DVD release -with all the relevent Honeydrippers/MTV Unledded/Page & Plant/Zooma/Thunderthief/PageCrowes/Priory/Dreamland solo activity in between. Get ready to soak it all up very soon - and check out the ordering link now. "

LED WALLET DAMAGE: ZEPPELIN DVD CLIP AT UK HI-FI SHOW
This from Chris Wright
Zep devotees visiting the Hi-Fi Show in London this weekend had the opportunity to witness a devasting audio visual feast in the form of an entire performance of Black Dog from the MSG 73 section of DVD.
Nothing particularly out of the ordinary about that you might say, until you factor in that the clip was played through an incredibly exotic 14,000 watt audiophile AV system specially assembled for the occasion by the likes of the British Audio Dealers' Association in the York Theatre of the Renaissance Hotel near Heathrow.
The cost of the entire system would probably run into many hundreds of thousands of pounds if anyone were to actually buy it and have a room large enough to house it. Page and Plant sized pockets required methinks.
Suffice it to say that it really was like being there. The impact and synergy of Jonesy's bass and Bonzo's drumkit were an absolute wonder to behold. So realistic, indeed, that the overall effect was reminiscent of the old Showco rig itself.
For the record, they were also demo'ing Dark Side of the Moon on SACD and the DVD-Audio of Bohemian Rhapsody. The sound reproduction was utterly lifelike and a tremendous display of the capabilities of the new surround formats. Now where's that lottery ticket?

STARSHIP ARTICLE IN NEW YORK TIMES
An interesting article "Flying High" about the customized Boeing 720B used by Zep, Stones, Deep Purple etc. appeared in Sunday's N.Y.Times. Now being flown around the Middle East, the plane witnessed many a prank in its time including a certain Mr Bonham; "He once tried to open the plane's door over Kansas City because he had to pee" and Mr Plant "on one turbulent flight Plant insisted he wanted to hear Elvis before he died".

SCHOOL OF ROCK MOVIE
A number of reports about the latest film to feature a Zep song. This is a comedy called "School of Rock" starring Jack Black and Joan Cusack. The film will incorporate "Immigrant Song" and will also feature songs by Cream, Stevie Nicks, and The Doors. It's a coup for director Richard Linklater ("Waking Life"; "Before Sunrise") as you may recall that he had previously tried to obtain permission to use a certain Led Zep song for his debut film, "Dazed and Confused." The new movie, written by Mike White ("The Good Girl;" "Orange County"), is about a misfit substitute teacher (Black) who forms a band with a group of kids at a rich private school. One of the promotional pictures of the movie shows Black in front of a chalkboard with a Pete Frame-like "rock family tree" with Led Zeppelin prominently featured in the diagram.

Launch states that the song request was granted because its star, Jack Black, asked personally. According to the studio, Black - who makes music with the comical rock act Tenacious D stepped in after School Of Rock director Richard Linklater was unable to get permission to use "Immigrant Song." Black reportedly sent a humorous videotaped request for the song to the three surviving members of Led Zeppelin, who subsequently gave their approval. The School Of Rock soundtrack comes out September 30, while the film opens October 3.

BONHAM BY BONHAM BOOK
This from Simon Pallett
Mick Bonham's book "Bonham By Bonham" is now out on Icarus Publications (ISBN:0-9545717-0-3). It's about 140 pages - all glossy - some colour. I think it's self-published, but it's not amateur by any means. There are quite a few previously unpublished photos I think (although most are "family album" type stuff). As far as I can gather, it's only being distributed by one shop "Sound Search" in Dudley. I got my copy from a Sound Search listing on ebay (still running, put "Mick Bonham" or "Bonham Book" in ebay search engine for more details)
(TBL/Webman note: Amazon lists the book as having a August 15th publication date but says that it is not available yet).

PLANT RETROSPECTIVE COMPILATION NEWS: SIXTY SIX TO TIMBUKTU

Hinted at on TBL/Web news in March, details of the compilation are sketchy at this stage with a possible release date of November 2003. Most of the news quoted on the internet has come from the same source http://www.concertlivewire.com/newsss.htm. This is reproduced below:
PLANT TO RELEASE SIXTY SIX TO TIMBUKTU
Following the recent interest in Led Zeppelin - due to the mega-sales of their newly released DVD and 3-CD live set How The West Was Won - lead singer Robert Plant is currently putting together a 2-CD compilation album entitled Sixty Six to Timbuktu. According to inside sources, this set is scheduled to include not only his own solo hits, but pre-Zeppelin solo tracks from 1966/67 along with various collaborations he's done before and after Zeppelin as well. Plant is currently on tour in Scandinavia and set to embark on Lithuania and Ukraine in the middle of August.
Thanks to everyone who emailed in.

JPJ IN JAPANESE "GUITAR WARS"?
First mentioned on U's Lemon Song site http://ww2.tiki.ne.jp/%7Eritsuko/ are details of possible John Paul Jones stage appearances in Tokyo and Osaka as part of "Guitar Wars" at the end of August.
An interview with Steve Hackett on WCPN http://www.wcpn.org/an/features/2003/0811steve_hackett.html mentions JPJ joining Steve and a collection of musicians for a few on stage scratch performances. (The comments are around the 15-16 minute mark in the interview.)
Curiously, Steve Hackett's website http://www.stevehackett.com/guitarwars/GuitarWars.htm does not mentioned it although Pat Mastelloto says on his web site http://www.patmastelotto.com/ that John Paul Jones is participating in Guitar Wars. So does Paul Gilbert http://www.paulgilbert.com/news.html.

FREDDIE BANNISTER: THERE MUST BE A BETTER WAY

A new book just published of interest to all Zep fans.
There Must Be A Better Way is a 330 page paperback which combines both Just Broken Even and There Must Be A Better Way and tells the story of the Bath and Knebworth festivals 1969-1979. It covers the only four festivals that Led Zeppelin performed in the U.K. It also deals with how Freddy Bannister initially met Peter Grant when Peter was a road manager with Gene Vincent and the behind the scenes arguments between Freddy and Peter in 1979 during the two Knebworth Festivals. Although much has been written about this by third parties this is the first time the actual truth has been told by the promoter himself.
The 330 page book also includes stories of other Knebworths which include stars such as Zappa, Stones, Genesis, Floyd etc.
The book is priced at £12.95 plus £2.50 postage. (Overseas postage is a bit more, use the contacts below for more information.)

As a special offer, TBL/Web readers who order the book will also receive a CD gift. (These CDs are not for sale anywhere.) To qualify please remember to include a note stating that you read about the book here at TBL/Web and would like the free gift.

TBL/WEB:THE VAULT

During the quieter summer months for Zep news, why not stop by TBL/Web's vault. This contains a selection of old articles and reviews which are worth a re-visit. The vault can be found from the TBL/Web front page of from this link.

PLANT: NEW ALBUM TEASER
This from Steve Beale
A local West Country mag called "VENUE:Bristol and Bath's" No.570 18/24 July 03 has a front cover picture of Plant. On his White T-Shirt it says "Ashton Court Special Whole Lotta Plant Exclusive" - Interview with the Ashton Court headliner.
On page 10 there is an interview with Robin Askew called Golden Oldie..
Near the end of the interview it reads as follows. "These days, Robert Plant practically qualifies as a local lad. Hell, he even used to subcribe to the Venue when he lived in Monmouth. Most of Strange Sensation, including Portishead drummer Clive Deamer and keyboard player John Baggott, live round here. And all the bands tour rehearsals and preparation for their new album are taking place in the Bristol and Bath area. For obvious reasons, Plant declines to say where exactly, but its not at Peter Gabriel's Real World studio."

PAGE IN THE SUN

Friday's edition of the UK Red Top paper, The Sun carried a centre-page article featuring an interview with Mr Page. An online version is available here: http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,5-2003341017,,00.html. Interestingly for a paper that thrives of gossip and speculation, the reunion rumours receive the traditional cold-water treatment from Page and he also mentions possible solo work.

PLANT'S TV TRIBUTE TO BOB HARRIS
The subject on this week's BBC TV "This is your life" was Bob Harris. He of the Old Grey Whistle Test and Zep DVD Brussels 75 interview. At the start of the programme by way of introduction to Bob Harris' career there were snippets of various interviews & introductions including a one second clip of Plant in his classic Zep days. Later on Plant gave a quick bit to camera about Bob thanking him for his support and mentioning how Bob H. liked exploring different types of music. Other guests giving bits to camera were David Gray & Elton John. Also in the studio were Judy Tzuke, Robin Gibb, Suzi Quatro & various "older" DJ's.
Thanks Dave, Dav, Phil Tattershall, Paul Linwood.

HTWWW DVD-A RELEASE
A number of emails about this. Currently there is no official release date although a possible pre-Xmas slot has been mentioned. For those who haven't heard about it, DVD-A is a new audio format which improves over CD in that there is an improved sampling rate and greater frequency range. Bats and other small mammals particularly enjoy the improved output which requires (yet more) new hi-fi equipment.

PLANT IN "VELVET PROTEST...!

Here an interesting article from the July 17th Houston Press: A manager of an up and coming Jamaican group named Tony Noons says he was a booking manager in Birmingham in the late '60's and that one of his bands was Listen, featuring a Mr. Robert Plant on vocals. Here is his story about
Robert's first taste of "fame":

"ZEP TO TOUR" REPORT IN UK SUNDAY EXPRESS
In the Sunday Express 20 July Financial section, accompanied by a picture of Plant and Page (now and then) the following article appeared:
" Legendary Seventies group Led Zeppelin is to be revived for a 60 day tour of the US next year that is expected to net 100 million pounds. Original frontmen Robert Plant and Jimmy Page are set to team up with Jason Bonham, the son of the bands drummer, John Bonham who died in 1980.
Sanctuary Group the artist licensing and recording group that has a 14% stake in Led Zeppelin is expected to bank up to 13 million pounds from the tour. It has capitalised on Led Zeppelins continued popularity in the US, where a compilation of the groups songs has dominated the DVD and album charts in recent weeks.
A spokesman for the company refused to confirm the tour was going ahead but said: The world would love to see a Zeppelin tour. Tim Steer, a small-caps analyst at fund manager New Star Asset Management said : The money is so big it has got to bring them together. Sanctuary is the worlds second largest independent record label and has a catalogue of more than 130,000 tracks from artists from including Robert Cray, Black Sabbath and Anthrax.
(TBL/Web comment: Looks like a simple rehash of all the stuff that went around pre album release)

PAGE: JAPANESE TV INTERVIEW REPORT
This from Takemi Hiramatsu
At midnight of July 10 the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (Nippon Hoso Kyokai a/k/a NHK), the sole national broadcaster in Japan, broadcast a BS2 TV program called "Mayonaka no Okoku" (which means "The Midnight Kingdom") that featured Led Zeppelin. It featured 10 minutes of Jimmy Page's interview by a Japanese music magazine male editor called Atsushi Shikano and a Japanese female talent called Silva. The interview was shot in a small place which looked like a Hotel room.
In the interview, Jimmy, apparently in a relaxed mood in a casual black T-shirt, talked about the recent release of DVD, what Led Zep really was, the Black Dragon Suit (which he said he would never donate even to the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame!) and so on .
Interestingly, the male editor commented that he was very jealous about the fact that Jimmy's attitude was quite friendly and sweet when he was asked questions by the lady, as compared to his somewhat uninterested and reluctant attitude when he was asked questions by the editor! Actually, the lady confessed that Jimmy had winked at her many times during the interview and that she had spent such a wonderful time as she had never had in her life!

PLANT SLUR??...!!
This from David M Johnston-Smith
This from an interview with Roy Knight, Rutland County Council's current Head of Cultural Services. (Roy is a drummer who played with The Bossman Blues Band, Love and Understanding, The M5 (he was from Walsall) and shared bills with The Who, Spebcer Davis and The Moody Blues amongst others.)
At one point he writes (and he doesn't actually state who the 'we' was, or when this took place):
"We also had the temerity to turn down the great Robert Plant for our band. He auditioned for us but seemed to be on another planet. He was way out, and we wanted to be squeaky clean. So we thanked him politely and let him go."

Also included are guitar tablatures for some of these as well as for Stairway To Heaven in its entirety. The tablatures are sometimes at odds with some of the previously published ones and should be interesting for those who like to cross-refer different transcriptions of Jimmy's guitar parts in the hope of getting them definitively nailed.

NEW YORK PREMIERE
Finally, as the dust begins to settle here's a report on the goings on at the end of May. http://www.tightbutloose.co.uk/dvdcinemanyc.html

PAGE IN JAPAN
Here's a report of Jimmy Page in Japan from Takemi Hiramatsu:

Page held a conference at Yamano Music in Ginza, Tokyo last night. Audience numbers (other than the press) was limited to 220, being winners in a lottery entered if they purchased the CD or DVD from Yamano Music. I was one of those lucky folks and, very fortunately, got the ticket numbered "002" (i.e. the second person to enter the room!) Naturally, I was able to secure the very best place in the middle of the front row in approximately 2 to 3 meters distance from the chair where Jimmy was sitting! Before Jimmy came up, the DVD version of "Whole Lotta Love" at the Royal Albert Hall was presented loudly using the 5.1 system, which sounded great.

Then Jimmy appeared! He looked healthy and in good shape and was quite dandy with a black long-sleeve jacket. First, he explained in a general manner how he produced the new releases. Then, there was a time for the press to pose questions to Jimmy. (Only a few questions were actually posed.) Finally, there came a time for the general audience to ask questions. At this time, there were so many folks (including myself) who raised their hands for questions that only a limited number of them were able to be chosen by the chairlady. Interestingly, however, as the chairlady was about to declare the close of the Q&A session, Jimmy himself picked up a guy who had been eagerly shouting for a question and allowed him to ask a final question, saying that he yielded to the guy's enthusiasm!
The following two pieces were especially interesting information provided by Jimmy through the event:
1. "How the West Was Won" which has been released in the CD form only this time would be re-issued in the DVD-Audio (CD-A) form in the near future.
2. He stated that he would like to restart his activities as a musician but that the time for this would probably be from next year on.

The event lasted approximately one hour. Jimmy very swiftly left the room after he was presented a bunch of flowers from a lady working for Yamano Music. The general audience were not allowed to take photos, record the event in any form or shake hands with Jimmy.

Here is another report from Japan of Pagey doing some shopping...! http://www.dnd-rock.com/gallery/topic.cgi

PAGE RIFFATHON COMPETITION
This from Stuart Carson
In July edition of 'Guitarist' magazine, as well as a nice interview with Jimmy, and a look at his equipment with his tech 'Binky' there appears this article on page22:
"GET READY FOR RIFFATHON! Fancy yourself as a writer or player of great riffs? Then look out for riffathon! Action for Brazil's Children Trust(of which Jimmy Page and his partner Jimena Gomez-Paratcha is Founder and Chairperson), ACM, Guitarist, plus various guitar and amp manufacturers and dealers are coming together for Riffathon: the country's most exciting guitar playing competition ever!
Riffathon is a way of raising money for ABC Trust(www.abctrust.org.uk)which aims to get the millions of Brazil's street children off the streets and back to a meaningful life.
Details are yet to be finalised (see next month's Guitarist for the full lowdown), but entrants will pay to enter Riffathon (£15, which gets you a t-shirt and entrance pack-the rest going to ABC Trust). Heats will be held around the country in carefully selected stores, before regional finals take place to decide the 10 lucky riffers who will be judged by the Led Zeppelin great himself, and a panel of superstar guitarists....the magazine then says you must get the August edition for more information.

Just got my July edition of 'Guitarist' Mag with none other than Jimmy Page on the front cover with black, triple pick-up Les Paul. This wasn't advertised - they usually say in advance who's going to be featured.
There are several pages: a new interview covering themes I'd not read about previously...bit of Beatles & Hendrix chat...mention of the guitar triumvirate. Not just a discussion about the new releases. Pics and info about the main guitars by guitar tech 'Binky'. Plus a page on the new CD and DVD releases. Well worth a look.
