ZEP FEST 2011 CANCELLATION

In light of the collapse of the Zep Fest 2011, I would like to take this opportunity to address the cancellation of the event and my standing within it all.
To say I was shocked when the Zep Fest web site stated the event was cancelled late on Sunday night is an absolute understatement.
It was devastating news.
To backtrack: I was offered the opportunity to appear as a guest speaker at the event back in November last year. Thus began a long running dialogue between myself with the Zep Fest Organiser Mark …

TBL NEWS ROUND UP: ROBERT PLANT & THE BAND OF JOY US TOUR LATEST, ROY WOOD COMPILATION DUE WITH JOHN BONHAM TRACK, PAGE IN CUBA AND ZEPPARELLA SPLIT

As we move into February, the Robert Plant and The Band Of Joy tour continues across America – here’s a round up of the tour progress so far:
New songs worked into the set include a radically reworked version of Black Dog, a version of Nobody’s Fault But Mine that lends itself more to the Unledded version than the sonic Presence version and an excellent arrangement of Ramble On -while numbers such as In The Mood, Silver Rider and Cindy have re-appeared.  The press coverage has been universally positive and even …

DAVE LEWIS DIARY: TBL 28/2011/GERRY RAFFERTY/MICK KARN/ROCK FOR KAMPUCHEA/LIFE WITH THE STARS THEN AND NOW

After all the Christmas and new year festivities, it’s been good to catch up on everything in the past couple of days and get some focus on a new year.
We duly saw the new year in at our local The White Horse. The rock band on offer was proficient enough but their set list hardly pampered to a new year’s eve crowd. The Door’s LA Woman is a fine album track but not one for dancing consumption after a round of Auld Lang Syne. No matter – we got through …

DAVE LEWIS DIARY: JUNE IN DECEMBER/ZEP FEST 2011/SNOW/TBL28/WORLD CUP/30 YEARS OF NOT CONTINUING AS THEY WERE

It may be winter outside….but in here it’s been flaming June courtesy of the recently surfaced soundboard tape of Led Zeppelin’s opening night at Madison Square Garden on the evening of June 7th 1977.  I know exactly what I was doing that day as it was the celebration of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee and I was toasting Her Majesty in several Bedfordshire public houses. Over in America, Led Zeppelin were barnstorming their way though the first of six nights at the legendary New York venue.
On this new CD set (released …

DAVE LEWIS DIARY: ANGEL DANCE/LED ZEP 3/QUEEN AND COUNTRY SERVED/ROBERT SANDALL/ALEX HIGGINS/HANCOCK

I can remember a fair few Robert Plant new single premieres down the years.
Hearing an advance tape of Big Log in June 83 and knowing it would catch the summer mood. Being totally mystified by Pink And Black when it was first aired on the Whistle Test. Heaven Knows played on Radio One’s review show Roundtable and being given a thumbs up by Bee Gee Barry Gibb. 29 Palms heralding the Fate Of Nations era on a bright April morning.
This week Angel Dance was added to the list. Being out …

DAVE LEWIS DIARY: WORLD CUP / TBL SCHEDULE/ JOE BONAMASSA/ TCV

DL with a fully paid up member of the Black Country Communion –  London June 29th 2010
Let’s get this one out of the way.  England’s exit from the World Cup was indeed a bitter pill to swallow. I know we were poor overall, but I can’t help thinking if the goal that never was had been rightly allowed it might have all been a different story. It’s all history now though and we are left with the aftermath, the recriminations and inquests.  Can’t get too excited about the rest of …
