We had a fantastic afternoon yesterday at the TBL pub meet at the Kings Head pub to mark the 50th anniversary of Led Zeppelin’s first gig of the five night Earls Court run back in May 1975.
Many a Zep tale was recalled and the excellent quiz hosted by Phil Tattershall was won by Rikky Rooksby and Geoff Adamson.
We had a toast for sadly missed friends such as Tom Locke. Andy Adams, Howard Mylett and Peter Jones.
It was so heart warming to see some long time key Zep fans I had …

Peter Jones RIP
I am so very saddened to hear the passing of Peter Jones – a fervent Led Zeppelin fan over many years.
I met Peter and his best friend Russ Rees when I ventured to Heathrow Airport on Tuesday May 17 1977 to watch the four members of led Zeppelin arrive before they flew out for the second leg of their mammoth 1977 US tour.
I discovered that Peter and Russ were already experienced at this – having seen them fly out the previous month for the first leg. They had …

TBL Archive…1977:
Led Zeppelin – The Destroyer 48 years Gone:
The first recordings I heard of the 1977 US tour was an echo laded audience tape from the April 28 Cleveland show. I had this arrive via one of my key collector contacts Russ Rees about a month after the gig. Despite the average sound, it was still a thrill to hear the likes of Ten Years Gone and Achilles Last Stand performed live. In 1980 a soundboard mixing desk tape emerged of their April 27 gig. This was altogether something else …

My thoughts on…
Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes – Live at The Greek new reissue…
First some pre-amble to put this release into perspective…
In 1998 Jimmy Page and Robert Plant undertook their second tour together dubbed the Walking into Everywhere tour. This took them across Eastern Europe, America and Central Europe. It also coincided with the release of the Walking Into Clarksdale album.
The stripped down five-piece line-up of Page, Plant, Michael Lee on drums, Charlie Jones on bass and keyboard player Phil Andrews was in stark contrast to the Unledded tour. …

The occasion …

Led Zeppelin night at The Dublin Castle Rock ‘N ‘Roll Book Club featuring full live Led Zeppelin set by CODA – a Tribute to Led Zeppelin
Wednesday March 26 2025
We had a great night at the Dublin Castle Rock And Roll Book Club event in Camden.
It was an excellent turn out. Richard Houghton, the author of the Led Zeppelin Whole Lotta Love A People’s History took to the stage with me to be interviewed by the excellent Alison.
The conversation revolved around the early impact of Zep in the US as featured …

John Paul Jones vintage newspaper reports discovered ….
A couple of remarkable John Paul Jones vintage newspaper cuttings have emerged via research by Jeff Norrod in Tennessee.
Firstly from the Lincolnshire Echo Thursday September 10 1953
Under a column marked Commentary from City and Country by the Gossiper – a subsection titled Old Friends it talks of John’s parents meeting up with old friends and also reports the following;
Both Joe Baldwin and his wife are keen anglers: indeed it is the attraction of the water courses around the city that has brought them …
