Robert Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters new Album:

lullaby pic

Robert Plant has announced details of a new album with his band The Sensational Space Shifters.

‘Lullaby and…The Ceaseless Roar’ will be released on September 8. Produced by Robert Plant, it features 11 new recordings, nine of which are songs written by Plant with the rest of the band. The first single from the album, ‘Rainbow’ is due for digital download very soon.

This  is Plant’s first record since 2010’s ‘Band Of Joy’, which followed 2007’s collaboration with Alison Krauss, ‘Raising Sand’. The all-new lineup of the band features Justin Adams, John Baggot, Juldeh Camara, Billy Fuller, Dave Smith along with Cast guitarist Liam ‘Skin’ Tyson.

“It’s really a celebratory record, powerful, gritty, African, Trance meets Zep,” Plant says. “The whole impetus of my life as a singer has to be driven by a good brotherhood. I am very lucky to work with The Sensational Space Shifters. They come from exciting areas of contemporary music…I have been around awhile and I ask myself, do I have anything to say? Is there a song still inside me? In my heart? I see life and what’s happening to me. Along the trail there are expectations, disappointments, happiness, questions and strong relationships…and now I’m able to express my feelings through melody, power and trance; together in a kaleidescope of sound, colour and friendship.”

In summary:

So begins another new phase – this UK and album activity is going to propel Robert Plant right back in the forefront and the prospect is very bright ahead. The new album looks very much to be in the organic and pure vein of Fate of Nations. Glancing back to look forward…

Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters play the main stage at Glastonbury this Saturday at 5.30pm -we will be hooked to the TV coverage of the performance here which airs at 8pm on BBC 4.

Here’s some feedback about the track Rainbow via TBL contributor Stephen Humphries:

”I have listened to it about 10 times this morning. You’ve heard the live version, of course, but the studio version has that crisp production and nuance and the vocal is so beautiful and affecting. It’s “Song to the Siren” meets “Shining in the Light.” Despite being very straightforward, I cannot gulp down enough listens to this song.will. Its simple beauty will floor you…one of those vocal performances that is so open and heartfelt and unaffected that it just pierces you.”

I am in total agreement – it’s incessant affecting groove get’s right under the skin – totally compelling and I know I’m going to be crooning the chorus all day long… as for Little Maggie – another little gem – love the way Juldeh’s ritti playing merges with the subtle banjo pickling over another exemplary Robert Plant vocal – all breathy and upfront the way I like it. A cool groove for summer playlists everywhere…

The silence is over…bring on the ceaseless roar…

Hi Dave, A lot happier now, Got tickets for Roundhouse,Cambridge, and the now traditional trip to Robert’s homeland.

Reading your brilliant Dreamland piece, Brought all the memories flooding back, The frantic phone calls to The Astoria The mad rush down there in my lunch break to get tickets, Although I did manage to talk the guy into letting me have the Dreamland poster off the wall, and its been framed and on mine ever since. As you so often say “Not just a Band more a way of life”

Dave as you know i am more than a little jaundiced by Plants current
direction/musical bedfellows, but in all fairness these two tracks are his best for years. So will be breaking my embargo on all things SSS.Once again a success
for the TBL web site in promoting all things Zep and Zep related.Good on you mate!

    This is very welcome!

Tickets are available from Ticketmaster today (Weds) without preordering the album. This is good news for me as I jumped the gun a bit and preordered the album from Warner Bros site before the presale announcement was made about booking via Robert’s site. It all worked out in the end…

Good luck everyone – get ready to do it all again, but with added new album goodness!

Loving the new songs – Little Maggie is an instant joy, and Rainbow just works itself into your head after a few listens. Bodes very well for September!

    Cheers!

The first two tasters from the forthcoming Plant album are stunning. I think it sounds like a fresh departure and once again is challenging, familiar and extraordinary in equal measure. I suspect this may be a contender for album of the year across all media outlets and magazines if these two songs are anything to go by.

AND….a tour. Not just a tour but one that comes to Scotland (first time in many many years)!!!!! I will be straight on the phone when tickets go on sale on Friday as these venues are fairly modest in size.
