Hi Just wanted to add my 10 pence worth – my daughters brought me this brilliant book for christmas…I harp on about knebworth 79 to them all the time and mark each 4th august on the calender as a date to remember and reflect on what is the greatest gig I have ever seen…this wonderful book brought it all flooding back…i travelled with my lifelong friend in a coach from digbeth birmingham on the 3rd august and the books ‘memories’ chapter captures the atmosphere perfectly…i was 16 and although i had been to gigs locally in walsall and birmingham..this was a biggy..I slept in a council orange plastic rubbish bag which I held onto to sleep in after the concert before we got the coach home on the 5th…I seem to remember PEANUTS being shouted out a lot and being quite surprised when what we purchased wasnt exactly peanuts….but it did help to pass the night anyway!…so just a note to say thankyou so much for this brilliant book of memories…signed and notated by Dave himself….and yes, i still miss those days ….i miss it all….cheers,Steve

Thanks Dave, this is a great read and clearly much effort has gone into this. I particularly like the “collectables” section. The book recreates the atmosphere and brings back some vivid memories, as this was the only time I managed to see the band.. I remember catching the train back to Kings Cross and waiting for my father to pick me up early Sunday morning, and trying to hold a conversation, which was impossible, as my hearing was completely shot…The show vas LOUD and I remember an American girl next to me near the stage at the end of the show firing off her colt 45 …amazing.

    Hello Dave

It’s not just the book that’s great it’s your service. It took a mere 48 hours to reach me arriving on Christmas Eve. Personally signed with a free Radio Show disc.

    Brilliant!

Now what about a book on Zep recording sessions: dates, places, instruments, personnel, equipment and techniques used. Think Lewisohn’s ‘Complete Beatles’ Recording Sessions’ or ‘Elvis Presley: A Life In Music’ by Ernst Jorgensen. It really needs to be done before the main personnel get much older. Why is there so little info out there on how Zeppelin’s recorded music was actually put together?!

    Have a great 2014.

    All the best

    Ed Bliss

    Hi Dave,

Very happy to see you still writing books as well as the excellent TBL magazine. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas and New Year and that the second half of the season is a bit better than the first for you. 🙂

I was just watching the Song Remains The Same fan edition DVD when I remembered you had a new book out, so I got it sorted too sweet. Always great to get a new Zeppelin book from you.

With the extended editions due out next year it’s going to be an exciting 12 months or so. Hope my ticker can take it.

    Very best wishes,

    Dave

    Hi Dave,
Another masterful book. It provides a wonderful insight from the fans who attended these last magical UK shows.

The book is truly a thrilling read with so many interesting photos and stories, so different from other “bland” Led Zeppelin books churned out these days.

May I please pass on my thanks and congratulations to all who took time and contributed. The Bootleg / Memorabilia and ITTOD singles and albums add a wonderful finishing touch.

    WELL ALL, ANOTHER TRIUMPH !!!!

just got my ‘feather’ in the mail and am ordering this one right off … (somehow i miss these things the first time around sometimes — and then write poor sentences about them 😛 ) … but definitely want to see this one … love the knebworth shows for many reasons, one being that they, along with the 80 tour, were among the first bootlegs i had and i was enamored with them to say the least 🙂

and another signed book to add to that collection – books and bootlegs and a few guitars … it’s all i need 🙂

thanks again dave for all your efforts 🙂

Dave- just finished the Knebworth book. Thanks so much for creating this awesome account. After reading all the true story accounts: I felt like I had been there. There was a lot of good and bad in that huge crowd. A lot of mixed opinions floating around at the time. However, after reading all ot your book, its clear that Knebworth was a success. They put all punkers to shame with their performance. Not one of the punkers could come close to such a musical performance. They were silenced. Led Zeppelin was ready for the 80’s!!!!!

  • Shayne Smith said:

Hi Dave- just got the Knebworth book. It was a Christmas gift but took time getting to Calilfornia, U.S. I’ve seen the Kneborth footage more times than I count count but never noticed them seeming nervous which is mentioned many times. I must watch again for that. Robert’s range is slightly diminished by that point and Jimmy is rusty but JPJ and Bonzo are better than ever in my opinion.
Hard to believe the critics when it comes to Zeppelin. What planet are they from? Not mine!! They must be unmusical jealous idiots. Their title describes their personality–critic. Also, in my opinion, there is not a dull moment on In Through the Out Door. There is talk of some of the songs being nothing but filler. Some fans just cant understand how they would put a song like Hot Dog on the album. They liked to do different types of music. That is a quality not a fault. If it doesnt appeal to every fan, that’s the world. The people need to understand the band more not critizize them for variety. Maybe I’m biased because I love every note Zep ever played. I’m not even done with the book yet. I will write again when I am. Thanks so much for signing it!! What a nice touch!!

After reading this fantastic book about the last two concerts of Led Zeppelin on home ground, I can not believe it is not sold out yet.

A MUST HAVE for every self respecting Zep fan!

If you were not there, back in 1979, then this book will take you there! So, put on your headphones, let the album “In Through The Outdoor” play and read, read, read….
