Jimmy Page was in attendance at the press conference in Beijing to announce the Show of Peace concert. This free concert will take place on April 17th on Beijing’s Olympic Green. Speaking at the launch Jimmy commented “My belief in music as a universal language is the reason I returned to Beijing to voice my support for the Show of Peace. “This (concert) is a tribute to the power of music and its positive effect. Music has been one of the most powerful languages that speaks to the heart of the people around the world.”
The organisers hope the concert will be beamed live around the world via television and the Internet to mark this year’s 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Promoter Rick Garson described it as the first-ever global peace and environment concert in China featuring world famous celebrities and musicians. ‘’Tickets are free. You can’t charge for peace and green. It is going to be for everybody, it’s like China’s gift to the world and the people,’ Garson told reporters. Jimmy along with Aerosmith, The Black Eyed Peas and Michael Jackson guitarist Orianthi are the artists so far confirmed for the show. A host of other acts are being sought for the event including Lady Gaga and 50 Cent. More details to follow. (see www.showofpeace.com)
*At the Beijing press conference Jimmy was presented with the first ever United Nations’ Pathways to Peace award by Michael Johnson of the UN.
“We’ve been asked to give awards over the years but never have done so until this day,” said Michael Johnson “We’re doing this because musicians have a global impact on the world, and we also know that people who use their name and fame for peace building need to be honored.”
“Although this award has my name on it,” Jimmy said “this is a tribute to the power of music and its positive effect. Music has been the most powerful language to reach the hearts of people around the world. During my career, I’ve experienced the connection and harmony that music can bring.”
