To mark the impending momentous worldwide screening of the Led Zeppelin Ahmet Ertegun 02 reunion concert on October 17th, we are counting down to the day with a daily Celebration Day Newsletter post. This will feature relevant news and updates and archive features.

Countdown to the Celebration Day…2 days to go.

IT’S COMING YOUR WAY SOON….

CELBERATION DAY – ANOTHER MASSIVE WEEK AHEAD….

So begins another massive week of Celebration Day activity –tonight the film has another premiere in Berlin with John Paul Jones in attendance. Tomorrow night Jimmy Page will be in Tokyo for the Japan premiere. If you are attending wither of those events we welcome your feedback. The focus then all points to Wednesday October 17th – the Celebration Day where over 1,000 movie theatres worldwide will be screening the film.

So with two days to go the excitement continues to mount. We are gearing up here for the Wednesday 8.45 showing in Bedford and I am sure many reading this will be making plans for their own Celebration Day film experience. It will simply be one of the greatest days in the history of Led Zeppelin

Here’s a new teaser of what this week is all about….

Details here of the two programmes on Sky Arts 1 tonight:

20:00 Down the Tracks: The Music that Influenced Led Zeppelin

Exploring the music that helped shape the heavy rock band, including the blues, English folk music and the novels of JRR Tolkien.

22:00 A To Zeppelin
Friends, colleagues and contemporaries of Led Zeppelin discuss the rock band’s history, including their unusual formation and global success. The programme reveals how their formidable reputation as a live act enabled them to transform the relationship between artists and promoters, and tour manager Richard Cole, session guitarist Jim Sullivan and Jimmy Page’s former girlfriend Pamela Des Barres recall some of the band’s more outlandish antics on the road. The film also explores the influence of drummer John Bonham on Zeppelin’s music, and examines how his death signalled the beginning of the end for the group.

Here’s a link to an interesting story about Led Zeppelin’s first UK gig billed as The Yardbirds in October 1968:

ROBERT PLANT PRESENTS THE SENSATIONAL SPACE SHIFTERS -SOUTH AMERCIAN DATES:

After all the Celebration Day press activity, Robert Plant will be returning to performing live this week when the Sensational Space Shifters commence a series of South American dates – this week they play in Rio de Janeiro at the HSBC Arena on October 18th, Belo Horizonte, Expo Minas October 20th, and San Paulo Espaco das Americas on October 22nd. Again we welcome feedback and pics from these shows.

AND FINALLY…02 REUNION CONCERT QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“I kept saying, ‘I really am playing drums for Led Zeppelin!’ This really is something special, something I dreamed about all my life in a very strange way. On the night I remember there was one incident. Probably John won’t remember it like I do – there was a look I did with John during No Quarter.“I’d watched The Song Remains the Same so many times and I remember thinking: ‘That was just like The Song Remains the Same: he gave me the look! “It probably wasn’t for the same reason he did Dad, but that was very, very special for me, honestly.” Jason Bonham 2012 via Classic Rock

Until tomorrow…keep reading – keep listening…

    Hi Dave

Missed you on Friday night. I was sat in row O seat 29 a couple of rows behind you and the other side of the isle. I did see you arrive in your seat just before the film started, and had every intention of saying hello, bur after the film i got carried away in the crowd.

As for the film, I think it is the best concert film I have ever seen. You do really get the feeling that they enjoyed playing together. Also the communication between them was fantastic, it was like they had never been away. The only down side of Friday was the sound. Loud music is great but the sound mix did distort Roberts vocals and bury them in the mix.

Congratulations on your reports. They are spot on and convey the excitement of the night for those that could’nt attend. Keep up the good work.

As for issue 33 of Tight But Loose, it’s another corker.

    Best wishes Paul
