Robert Plant appears on two tracks on Lil Band O’Golds  “Plays Fats” album – a tribute to Fats Domino. The “swamp rock” traditional Cajun style group from Louisiana first hooked up with Robert a few years ago, performing a couple of gigs in New Orleans and recorded a couple Fats Domino songs for the rebuilding of New Orleans.
Sme of their work together was documented in the Lil’ Band O’ Gold movie ‘Promised Land: A Swamp Pop Journey’.
On ‘Plays Fats’, Plant sings lead vocal on the tracks ‘It Keeps Raining’ and ‘I’ve Been Around’. Other guests on the album include Lucinda Williams, Ani DiFranco, Tim Rogers and Jimmy Barnes.
‘Lil Band O’ Gold Plays Fats’ is released by Dust Devil Music via EMI on June 8, 2012.

During the first sessions, Robert Plant ventured into a New Orleans nightclub and performed a few songs with Lil’ Band O’ Gold. Watch them perform ‘I’ve Been Around’ here.

Robert also makes a couple of appearances on Austin based singer-songwriter Amy Cooks forthcoming album entitled Summer Skin. Robert sings harmony with Cook on the beautiful “It’s Gonna Rain”, and joins Patty Griffin on the moody “Airplane Driver”. The album is set for an August 28 release on Roothouse Records/Thirty Tigers and is a follow up to her highly praised (in this house at least) 2010 independent release, Let The Light In.

Amy Cook and special guest David Garza perform a song from Amy’s upcoming new record.

Other Robert Plant releases to look forward to:
Out this week is the DVD presentation of the Rockwell O2 concert from September 2009 which featured Robert Plant alongside Justin Adams, Juldeh Camara Billy Fuller and Dave Smith. The concert was in aid of The Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.

All here at TBL are sad to hear of the death of legendary studio engineer George Marino.  Back in 1990, George worked with Jimmy Page at Sterling Studios on the overhaul of the Led Zeppelin catalogue which led to the acclaimed Led Zeppelin box set and Remasters compilation. He also worked with many other artists including Gregg Allman, The J. Geils Band, KISS, Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, Patti Smith, AC/DC (Back In Black), Peter Frampton, The Bee Gees, The Cars, Queen, Cheap Trick, Guns N Roses (Appetite For Destruction), Metallica (“The Black Album”), Journey (Frontiers), Kansas (Point Of Know Return) and Bob Dylan. More recently, in 2011, he mastered the Grammy winning Album of The Year, Suburbs by Arcade Fire.

Finally…at his Hammersmith Apollo gig on June 6th Slash performed a version of Communication Breakdown  as a first encore…..here are a couple of clips of the May 31st Bonzo’s Birthday Bash staged at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.  Have a great weekend (GF/DL)
