TBL NEWS ROUND UP: VULTURES AT THE BEEB, BLACK COUNTRY LIVE DEBUT AND STRAY CAT BLUES
Them Crooked Vultures appearance on the Zane Lowe Radio 1 show live from the Maida Vale Studios on Wednesday night included live performances of New Fang, Dead End Friends, Mind Eraser, No Chaser and the hugely popular Spinning In Daffodils. The set was interspersed with interviews with Zane sitting at John Paul’s keyboards. John remembered the sessions with Led Zeppelin at the same studios, commenting with typical dry wit that “There’s still no where to park”. After touring the album for nearly eight months now the band looked to be having great fun in the studio. The whole sessions was filmed and can be seen on the BBC iplayer for a limited period.
The Vultures have announced more dates for the spring and summer, after which Dave Grohl looks likely to head into the studio with the Foo Fighters and Josh Homme will return for late summer touring dates with Queens Of The New Stone Age. John Paul Jones can also be heard contributing to the new Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3 album titled Propeller Time, which is just out via Sartorial Records.
On March 17th Joe Bonamassa played a show at the Riverside in California with his band promoting his new Black Rock album. For the encores he introduced some friends, Glenn Hughes, Derek Sherinian and Jason Bonham and for the first time the new band line of the tentatively titled Black Country (the name may undergo a change) performed on stage together. The much anticipated line up performed One Last Soul, which is set to appear on the new album, a driving track, showcasing the band’s potential as being next year’s must see act, and a cover of the Deep Purple classic Mistreated again highlighting Glenn’s incredible vocal range.
