It’s been almost 3 years since my last “real” Strange Sensations concert. If I don’t count that TV show early 2003, in London. It was so good to see them again and with new tracks. I was so impatient to finally witness these songs live and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. This is so exactly where I hoped that Strange Sensations would be going… who needs Afro Celts when you can get this?

Robert joked saying something about reincarnation and how he had gone all the way from Bath festival in the 60’s to this. And how all you needed to play Womad was to get some strange rhythms mixed in… How modest of him, I’m still so fascinated by their use of these very rhythms. I can’t find words to properly express this. One of my personal favourites was the new version of “Gallow’s Pole”, I always loved this song and more so since “Unledded” but this was by far the best version I ever heard, I felt really transported there. Another great moment was “When The Levee Breaks” it sounded absolutely mesmerizing like that.

Argh… what a band! “Whole Lotta Love” is hilarious, really more and more tongue in cheek these days. But still, I can do without too many Zepp songs and the new tracks are so great, I would have liked to have the whole album, I especially missed “All The King’s Horses” I love that song. Of course this wouldn’t really go down with the public.

Soundwise, it was good except on “Another Tribe” where the reverb on the “sampler” was way to loud and drowned the rest at least on my side (in front of Justin but a bit more to the right). I shouldn’t always pick that spot, even with my special earplugs it doesn’t help my tinnitus.

Once again, I feel happy and elated. It’s always worth the long trips and patience, nothing on Earth beats the happiness I feel when I can hear something like this. I really want more even though this (if I counted right) was my 20th time seeing Robert live, the first time being in 1993. Next time I hope I can share this with other fans… where was the London crew hiding?
