LED ZEPPELIN THEN AS IT WAS – AT KNEBWORTH 1979 – REVISED EDITION – PRE ORDER NOW!

Then as it was preview 1

THE NEXT TBL BOOK – DUE FOR PUBLICATION LATER THIS YEAR

LED ZEPPELIN THEN AS IT WAS AT KNEBWORTH 1979

COMPILED BY DAVE LEWIS

The first hardback edition is now sold out. However - a second revised limited edition hardback edition is in progress

PLEASE NOTE PUBLICATION OF THE SECOND EDITION IS NOW PLANNED FOR 2013

This is the current TBL book project which I am working on now – with publication for later in the year.

This is a major revamp of the first edition – in effect it will be a new book.

We are totally re designing it, adding photos and images mostly in colour. There’s also an additional 25,000 words of text being adding in. This includes ‘I was there’ accounts from a cousin of Ronnie Wood, the experiences of a member of the stage crew, on stage transcribes, TBL interviews, a Back To Knebworth 2009 chapter, additional statistics etc. I’m well excited about this one – I think it’s going to be a very worthy companion to the Feather In The Wind book

All pre orders are logged and will be fulfilled with the lowest numbers in the limited edition being allocated as pre ordered.

The second edition will feature:

*Revamped cover and new layout design

*Increased colour content and additional text

* All copies will be individually numbered, certified and signed by the author.

This edition is a major revamp on the first run – even if you have the first book this new improved edition is an essential purchase!

You can pre order a copy now - All pre orders will be allocated the lowest numbers as received.

DON’T MISS OUT – THE SECOND EDITION IS A STRICTLY LIMITED RUN

HERE’S WHAT’S IN STORE:

Thirty two years ago over two weekends in August 1979, thousands of fans came to pay homage to Led Zeppelin as they performed what would be their last UK shows at Knebworth.

Dave Lewis chronicles this milestone event in rock history with the full story behind the band’s triumphant return to the stage – the build up to the event, the concerts themselves, the aftermath and the accompanying impact of their final studio album In Through The Out Door.

The book’s centrepiece is a collection of over thirty unique first hand recollections from fans who attended the Knebworth shows.

These vivid, humorous and often moving accounts capture the true spirit of the occasion.

The book includes:

*Foreword by Ross Halfin – who photographed Led Zeppelin at the August 11th 1979 Knebworth show and their 2007 reunion at the 02 Arena.

*Preface overview by Chris Charlesworth former Melody Maker Editor who had close access to the band in the 1970s.

*Build up to the event, the gigs themselves and aftermath summary.

*Over thirty unique first hand accounts from fans who proudly boast ‘’I was there…’’

*Original Knebworth review from the Tight But Loose magazine.

*Transcribes of interviews from the Knebworth era with Robert Plant and John Paul Jones including contents of the lost promo interview album.

*American retrospective view of the Zep Knebworth saga by Larry M Bergmann Jr.

*Detailed Knebworth bootleg discography by Graeme Hutchinson.

*Detailed In Through The Out Door world wide discography by Nick Anderson.

* Memorabilia focus with spotlight on Knebworth collectables from the Brian Knapp collection.

Hardback format 240 x 170mm

It all adds up to an engaging account that tells how Led Zeppelin came out to meet their post punk audience and reclaim their crown as the worlds number one rock attraction. These nostalgic recollections from out in the field capture the final days of a legendary band and the simpler more innocent times of the last great British festival gatherings of the 1970s.

just got my ‘feather’ in the mail and am ordering this one right off … (somehow i miss these things the first time around sometimes — and then write poor sentences about them :P ) … but definitely want to see this one … love the knebworth shows for many reasons, one being that they, along with the 80 tour, were among the first bootlegs i had and i was enamored with them to say the least :)

and another signed book to add to that collection – books and bootlegs and a few guitars … it’s all i need :)

thanks again dave for all your efforts :)

Dave I’m still anxiously waiting for my book to arrive. My computer died and were just now getting back up and running, so haven’t had the means to touch base. I hope everything is a go. Good to be back on line.

I was at the gig on the 4th and this revived some great memories. It was a long day, very tiring coming down from the North(at the time)but well worth it.

Thanks once again, keep up the good work.

Dave- just finished the Knebworth book. Thanks so much for creating this awesome account. After reading all the true story accounts: I felt like I had been there. There was a lot of good and bad in that huge crowd. A lot of mixed opinions floating around at the time. However, after reading all ot your book, its clear that Knebworth was a success. They put all punkers to shame with their performance. Not one of the punkers could come close to such a musical performance. They were silenced. Led Zeppelin was ready for the 80′s!!!!!

Hi Dave- just got the Knebworth book. It was a Christmas gift but took time getting to Calilfornia, U.S. I’ve seen the Kneborth footage more times than I count count but never noticed them seeming nervous which is mentioned many times. I must watch again for that. Robert’s range is slightly diminished by that point and Jimmy is rusty but JPJ and Bonzo are better than ever in my opinion.
Hard to believe the critics when it comes to Zeppelin. What planet are they from? Not mine!! They must be unmusical jealous idiots. Their title describes their personality–critic. Also, in my opinion, there is not a dull moment on In Through the Out Door. There is talk of some of the songs being nothing but filler. Some fans just cant understand how they would put a song like Hot Dog on the album. They liked to do different types of music. That is a quality not a fault. If it doesnt appeal to every fan, that’s the world. The people need to understand the band more not critizize them for variety. Maybe I’m biased because I love every note Zep ever played. I’m not even done with the book yet. I will write again when I am. Thanks so much for signing it!! What a nice touch!!

After reading this fantastic book about the last two concerts of Led Zeppelin on home ground, I can not believe it is not sold out yet.

A MUST HAVE for every self respecting Zep fan!

If you were not there, back in 1979, then this book will take you there! So, put on your headphones, let the album “In Through The Outdoor” play and read, read, read….
