The Song Remains The Same Soundtrack at 40:
40 years ago,On the afternoon of Thursday October 21 1976, I anxiously tore open the box marked Warner/ Elektra/ Atlantic Records at the WH Smith record shop where I worked to reveal for the first time the gatefold sleeve of, as the label spine gloriously put it ‘’The Soundtrack To The Film The Song Remains The Same‘’.
Yes the only official live album released during the band’s life time is 40 years old.
I have much affection for that original double live album – it captures …

Record Collector Singles Feature:
The new issue of Record Collector out now has a feature written by yours truly –it focuses on 21 singles issued in the period 1968 to 1971 from rock artists seeking chart success and how they fared – all of which can be picked up for less than a tenner – I had a lot of fun selecting the singles for this feature – quite a few were picked up on the Vinyl Barn over the last few months via Darren Harte. There is of course a Led …

TBL Magazine Update:
Here’s a round up of the current state of paly with the TBL magazine.
A fair few very regular subscribers to the TBL magazine have yet to come back on board. I would say around 100 subscribers who have previously been very loyal to buying the magazine for some years, have yet to sign up for the 2016/17 subscription.
To reiterate:
ALL current subscriptions to the TBL magazine expired with issue 40. If you received issue 40 and have not re subscribed – now is the time.
As ever, I will be doing my utmost to deliver the …

The Complete BBC Sessions: Initial feedback and comment:
The release of the Led Zeppelin Complete BBC Sessions has generated a host of comment and feedback – here’s some observations – kicking off with some comment from Jimmy Page:
This one via the Planet Rock website:
Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page has told Planet Rock he’s hoping to hit the studio in 2017 to record new music.
The music legend appeared on MOJO Rocks with Phil Alexander on Saturday night to talk about Led Zeppelin’s Complete BBC Sessions album and he joked he’s been “quite rightly” chastised …

Led Zeppelin – The Complete BBC Sessions …today’s the day…
Today, Friday September 16 marks the official worldwide release date of the Complete BBC Sessions set.
My own fascination with these sessions dates back to the airing of that 1971 In Concert show. I actually taped this on the day it was first aired on Sunday, April 4, 1971 on my Grudig reel to reel tape recorder. My enthusiasm for the Zeppelin BBC sessions was further fuelled by the various BBC session bootlegs that emerged in the mid-Seventies.
During the early days of …

Let’s kick off with a celebration of one of the greatest live album of all time upon it’s 46th anniversary

Led Zeppelin Live On Blueberry Hill – the pioneering bootleg album …still a thrill…
46 years ago on September 4 1970, Led Zeppelin performed a memorable show at the Los Angles Forum – it was captured by more than one enterprising fan and subsequently released on a variety of bootlegs. It remains for me and countless others one of THE essential Led Zeppelin recordings.
To mark the 46th anniversary of …

The Complete BBC Sessions Uncut Magazine Review:
Never mind red snappers and trashed hotel rooms – in Britain, Zeppelin’s vertiginous rise had more to do with transistor radios…
It’s the story of a young band making a dramatic entrance onto the late ’60s rock scene. If you’re curious to know how led Zeppelin were able to leapfrog virtually all their British competitors in the space of a handful of radio appearances, their turbocharged versions of Communication Breakdown, How Many More Times and Eddie Cochran’s Something Else will provide you with a convincing answer .
They’re well …

The Complete BBC Sessions Mojo Review and new Jimmy Page interview:
The first review of the forthcoming Led Zeppelin Complete BBC Sessions has appeared in the new issue of Mojo.
Commenting on the Alexis Korner version of I Can’t Quite You Baby, Mark Blake observes ”The third version from that previously ‘lost’ Alexi Korner session is a revelation. The sound quality might be poorer but with Page’s flurrying guitar solos and John Bonham’s bionic right foot, it sums up in 5:26 minutes what made the early Led Zeppelin so exhilarating”
In a new interview …
