More from the DL Wish List – a Jimmy Page Anthology…

Clicking on a few choice cuts from my iPod playlist drawn from the catalogue of one James Patrick Page in acknowledgement of his birthday last Tuesday, prompted another of my wish lists. That is for a release of an official Jimmy Page career anthology CD set encompassing the many aspects of his work, from early 60’s sessions through his pioneering days with The Yardbirds and onto his massive 70’s achievements and post Zep highlights.

As a template for such an idea, I would direct you to Voyage the superb recently issued compilation of the career of David Crosby via the Rhino label. The three CD’s chronicle the esteemed singer/songwriter from his Byrds beginnings through his celebrated work with Stills and Nash and beyond. The third disc titled Buried Treasure has all manner of outtakes, demos and unreleased gems. A similar package of Page rarities could take in that fantastic Yardbirds 1968 BBC take of I’m Confused, an official release of the fabled 1974 Zep instrumental Swan Song and the Outrider outtake performance of Train Kept A Rollin’ with Chris Farlowe to name but three.

The scope for such a Page collection is highlighted in the extensive listing of Jimmy Page / Lord Of the Strings outstanding performances that forms the centrepiece of the forthcoming issue of Tight But Loose which the boy Foy and I are currently slaving away on.

And while we are on the subject of Zep birthdays, let’s not forget John Paul Jones 61 on January 3. Keep an eye on the Tight But Loose website for news of Uncle Earl the all girl bluegrass outfit who’s forthcoming album is produced by JPJ and are touring the UK later this month.
