The new issue of the Tight But Loose magazine is due for publication in September and as you can see by the cover –it’s another packed affair. Mike Tremaglio’s extensive tour logs capture Led Zeppelin on tour in 1971 from Montreux to Honolulu with more illuminating text and rare visuals. Part two of Rikky Rooksby’s intensive study of Stairway To Heaven looks at the performance and lyrical and musicology of the much maligned classic – all guaranteed to take you back to the song with fresh perspective. The return to the stage of Jimmy Page is fully chronicled with reviews and photos from the appearances with Donovan and The Black Crowes. John Paul Jones’ Summer activities with Seasick Steve, Jack White, The Foo Fighters and Spin Marvel are rounded up and Robert Plant & The Band Of Joy European tour and Back Country Communion’s High Voltage show also comes under the spotlight. We also pay tribute to the late Howard Mylett. Add in review’s of the Robert Plant Blue Note DVD, CD reviews, Live Dreams App info and all the latest news and you have another
outpouring of essential Zep related text to usher you into the autumn.

In an era of here today gone tomorrow  instantly digested information, the Tight But Loose magazine  remains a true genuine tangible collectable. Web sites are for browsing – the Tight But Loose magazine is for reading time and time again.

This is another call to arms for visitors to the site to invest in TBL product. It’s a source of some frustration that the TBL magazine does not reach a  greater audience. My aim is to produce quality products that will enhance the appreciation and enjoyment of the world of Led Zeppelin. Judging by the reaction to the magazines and books recently published that premise is being met.

That message has certainly been promoted on the airwaves recently. There’s another of my interviews about the Led Zeppelin Feather In The Wind –Over Europe 1980 book being aired tonight and tomorrow.

You can hear it on Classic Rock Radio.eu on the following days & times:

FRIDAY August 26th after the news at 8pm UK  time

SATURDAY August 27th after the news 8pm UK time

It will then air in the Listen Again Section – You can tune in via www.classicrockradio.eu and also by various radio apps for phones too (details on the Classic Rock Eu our website)

Here’s an extract of the review of the book in Record Collector by Terry Staunton.

‘’A brilliant dissection of ’the tour that time forgot’. What emerges is an intriguing chronicle of the biggest band in the world contemplating their own vastness and legacy -while re-tooling to remain relevant in a post new-wave music industry.  It should have been the first chapter in a whole new story, but circumstances led it to being the final few pages in an old one. But this is no obituary. Instead Dave Lewis has skilfully woven a passionate celebration of a group who may well have been on the verge of an altogether different kind of greatness’’

Led Zeppelin Feather In The Wind – Over Europe 1980 – Special price – Limited Edition – Signed by the author – Individually numbered. Perfect reading for wet bank holidays and beyond…

Had a great night out at the Hats Off To Led Zeppelin gig last Friday. The Stables venue in Milton Keynes is absolute class and the band did justice to the surroundings with a sharp incisive set that hit the mark –drummer Simon Wicker being particularly impressive.

Hats Off  To Led Zeppelin giving it a whole lotta love at the Stables – August 19th 2011.

Great to see Mark H and Phil H and the Geodie girls Lynn and Maxine plus Michaela, Dan, Geoff & Linda Bridges and Cliff Hilliard and Tracy. Tom and I stayed over at Cliff’s on Friday night. In the morning It was a real thrill to have a wade through Cliff’s collection. It’s always refreshing to view first hand somebody else’s passion for this band. Cliff has some superb stuff including a very nice Firm poster, a poster for A Priory Of Brion appearance in Greece, framed Earls Court,Knebworth and over Europe posters. He also has an array of Zep singles including many rare foreign pressings and a host of Page session singles from the 60s.

Cliff Hilliard -The legendary ”Ticket Man” with one of his many legendary Led Zeppelin tickets

Of course Cliff’s speciality is the collecting of Led Zeppelin and related solo tickets. This collection is simply awesome. He has amassed over 250 Led Zeppelin tickets ranging from early 69 appearances through to the Back To The Clubs tour on into the peak years and Over Europe 1980. It felt like I was literally touching history.

History in your hands….

Equally impressive is Cliff’s collection of solo tickets – masses of Robert Plant gigs/Priory/Firm etc –plus many rare 60s flyers of gigs by The Tennessee Teens ,Listen etc…. It was an eye opening view of  a simply amazing collection – absolutely immense.

Football is back and it’s the usual torture. I ventured to my good friend Terry’s on Monday to see Man Utd v Spurs. Once again Spurs came off second – a 3-0 defeat and another to add to the many we have suffered at Old Trafford. Still it’s early days – I’m sure R.Plant and G.Hughes will be well pleased with Wovles bright start. The boy Adam’s season starts with a match this Sunday. I am down as official linesman this season – so running up and down the pitch deploying the delicate offside rule will be how I’ll be spending most Sunday afternoon’s ongoing.

Elsewhere it’s the usual late Summer stuff going on here with September beckoning which means back to pre school for Janet as deputy leader and into sixth form for the boy Adam (his GCSE results today were most encouraging) and journalist college for Sam in London. For me the battle rages on to spread the TBL word, continue driving the book sales, get TBL 30 out there amongst many other initiatives to get under way. Before all that there’s a couple of birthdays with the good lady’s next Wednesday August 31 and your TBL editor hitting all the fives on September 5. Over that preceding weekend (Sept 3 and 4 )Bedford hosts its own mini free festival Bedford Summer Fayre where Abba Gold top the bill (for the ladieees) on the Saturday and Are You Experienced (for the boys) a Jimi Hendrix tribute on the Sunday. Not quite High Voltage but hey we will give it a go weather permitting.

Dancing Queen or Voodoo Chile? It must be age catching up but I quite fancy a bit of both…

On the early evening on Sky Arts 1 Sunday 28th August a program “Led Zeppelin and the music that inspired them” was screened for over an hour.
It went through the blues, Pressley, skiffle, folk etc and was very interesting. Contributions from many including Charles Shaar Murray.

It wasn’t the usual hatchet job but basically they picked up the torch and carried it forward.

It did mention JR Tolkien and Crowley (I dont have their albums) but was very enjoyable and I hope you can keep an eye out for it as it will be repeated in my experience of this channel.
