DAVE LEWIS DIARY:TBL 28 LATEST/SNOW (STILL)/ JIMMY ON PLANET ROCK/BCC TBL PRE GIG LONDON MEET/A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM ME AND GARY TO YOU

Mr D.Lewis: Author, publisher,TBL editor and occasional Father Christmas…
‘Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!’’ as Dean and Frank both sang way back when, and well it did – and it isn’t going away too quickly. The old white stuff has hung around all week and consequently made the distribution of the new TBL magazine somewhat problematic. A fair few have gone out now with more to follow in the next few days. The postal delivery times are well erratic at the moment and here we had no …

Aside from battling the adverse weather conditions, the last two weeks have been taken up with completing and signing off the new issue of the TBL magazine. Big thanks to Roger at Parrot Print and my good friend Dec Hickey for his input and text checking.
With the weather playing havoc, the first finished copies have been delivered …

Tomorrow (October 9th) would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday. The events of 30 years ago surrounding his comeback album Double Fantasy and his shocking death in December are intrinsically linked for me with the tragic events going inside the Zep camp this time back in 1980.
I can vividly remember Simon Bates airing the Starting Over single and there was a real optimism about his return to recording. I purchased the album in the Kings Road in November after a visit to the Swan Song offices. That optimism (as with …

DAVE LEWIS DIARY: HENDRIX/BOLAN/TBL 27/AUTUMN MELANCHOLY

I can remember exactly where I was when the news of Jimi Hendrix death came through 40 years ago tomorrow. I was listening to the Tommy Vance Friday What’s New programme as I did most Fridays back then eager to hear the latest single releases. Around 5pm the announcement was made on the BBC Radio One news and Tommy went on to provide a fitting tribute to the guitar legend noting the inconsistencies of his performances over the past year.
Across the water the next day Led Zeppelin were performing two …
