DAVE LEWIS DIARY: SAD NEWS HERE

10 April 2010 3,908 views 23 Comments

Sadly Janet’s Dad passed away just after 5pm on Friday April 9th.

Kenneth Squire (1918 – 2010), was a lovely man who along with wife Betty, has done so much for Janet, myself, Sam and Adam. Ken was a carpenter and a shopkeeper by trade, born to simple values in a bygone age – he was very proud to have served his country in the Army in the second world war. He loved his cricket and football and was never happier than when hearing about Adam’s latest exploits on the pitch. We will miss him dearly, but always remember him clearly as such a kind, caring loving husband, father, and father in law and grandfather.

There’s a lot of sadness and tears for Janet, myself, Sam, Adam and Betty around here right now as we come to terms with our loss. I’ll address matters of a TBL nature again when appropriate.

Thoughts are with you and your family at such a sad time. The cricketing picture shows that he was able to clear the front leg out of the way to give it a whack – he’d obviously have done well in the modern game! An innovator, perhaps?

    Dave,
Please pass on my heart felt thoughts to Janet, Janet’s mother, Sam, and Adam upon this great sadness of news.

Kenneth appeared to have been an upstanding, decent and well respected family man to which we should all take a moment to reflect in our lives and appreciate how precious our family and friends really are.

No words can ease the pain you must all be suffering, but fond memories of days gone by spent together will I hope comfort you all now.

    Best wishes
    Cliff

    Dave,
Looking at these great photos and thinking how ironic and poignant it is that I’ve just been listening to “When An Old Cricketer Leaves the Crease.” I’m going to give it another spin in honor on Ken Squier, may he rest in peace, and may his beloved family find comfort in many fine memories of his eventful life. The big smiles in those photos tell the true story. My best to you and the entire Squire/Lewis family.
