Jimmy Page made a special appearance at the British School Rock Fest Urca Site in Rio De Janeiro on November 28th. He was there in support of the charities Task Brasil for Casa Jimmy. Former Zep fanzine Wearing And Tearing editor Mark Archer who works at the school was in attendance and reports ‘’Jimmy stayed for over two hours appearing on stage on three occasions to address the near three hundred gathered in the school. He signed many autographs though as expected did not perform. I was lucky enough to meet him and I also won a bid for a signed poster in an auction which he kindly personally signed to me’’. Full on the spot report from Mark to follow soon.

Jimmy could not be persuaded to play but did appear on stage to introduce the local bands playing and help out with the charity auction.  It did appear he might relent when he picked up a Gibson SG guitar signed by Iron Maiden but he played just one e chord note – See You Tube clips

Them Crooked Vultures will be appearing on the BBC’s Friday Night With Jonathon Ross this Friday (4th) at 22:35pm on BBC One. Other guests include chef Gordon Ramsay, actress Reese Witherspoon, comedian Russell Howard and actress Sophia Loren. The standard format of the show has the musical guest playing out at the end of the show without an interview.

Assuming that the Jonathon Ross show is pre recorded it’s rumoured that the band will appear in Paris on  Friday 4th December to record a TV appearance on the L’ Album de la Semaine (Album of the Week) show on Canal Plus. Of course this brings us neatly to the start of the European Tour on the December 6th in Munich, Germany followed by Berlin on the 7th and Cologne on the 8th. The Cologne show is also to be filmed for the German TV show Rockpalast, to be broadcast in full December 15th.

And finally, due to overwhelming demand, two extra concerts have been announced in Sydney & Melbourne. Jan 23, Melbourne, Festival Hall & Jan 27, Sydney, Hordern Pavilion. Pre-sale tickets to the new shows will be available via frontiertouring.com from 2pm AEDT on Wednesday 2 December. General on-sale tickets are available Friday 4 December at 9am.

Robert Plant was on hand last week at the unveiling of a marker on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, honouring W.C. Handy at Tutwiler, Mississippi in the Delta. The markers (similar to the UK Blue Plaques) are part of a project by the Mississippi Blues Commission. The project is comprised of more than 120 markers throughout the US highlighting key people and places that formed the music and culture of the Mississippi Delta.  Robert told news media of his love of the area and of the blues, “There’s a magnetism and a draw which is — considering, you know, I’m a European, English, which I have no real explanation for — I think it’s just that it was such a profound effect on me when I was young, and right the way through my career, and more so through my life,” Plant said in an interview after the dedication.
The magnetism of the blues has brought Plant to Tutwiler six times.
“I keep coming back to reconnect,” he said, calling it a “very peculiar phenomenon.”

Plant said Williamson was huge in the United Kingdom, starting around 1962. The Delta bluesman appeared on British television, wearing a bowler hat (also known as a derby), carrying a briefcase and an umbrella. He performed with some highly acclaimed jazz musicians.
“He had just this cool way about him,” Plant said.

Follow this link to a video of Robert Plant  at the ceremony as he talks about how the blues of Sonny Boy Williamson and how the music from this rich musical region affected his life and career.

Whilst in the States, aside from the couple of Buddy Miller shows Robert attended it’s been reported that he managed to find a little studio time with Daniel Lanois and producer Mark Howard. Howard posted a few pictures of the session in his MySpace gallery. (thanks to Steve Sauer www.ledzeppelinnews.com)
