Genesis Publications officially launched the Jimmy Page By Jimmy Page book last night at a special reception held at the Elms Lesters Painting Rooms in London.
Jimmy was in attendance amongst a host of guests. Fellow musicians on hand included Ronnie Wood, Bill Wyman, Roy Harper, Mick Ralphs and Luke Morley. I spotted Zep tour manager Richard Cole and soundman Benji Lefevre looking at the array of images from the book that adorned the walls and it was great to see Howard Mylett there and photographer Jorgen Angel who famously shot the first photos of The New Yardbirds in Copenhagen.
Looking well relaxed in a smart pin stripe suit, Jimmy mingled with the guests and members of his family including his mother Patricia, daughter Scarlet and son James. Ross Halfin conducted a photo call which saw Jimmy posing with various key guests including the book’s picture editor Dave Brolan and designer and publisher of the book Catherine Roylance.
Also in attendance was Rod Wyatt – Jimmy’s school friend who taught him his first chords. He was presented with a framed photo from the book which shows him with Jimmy and their guitars outside the school they both attended.
There was a complete bound finished copy of the book on display –browsing through it I can only reiterate my comments from a few weeks back – this book successfully chronicles every step of Jimmy’s amazing journey with an artful magnificence that few books on any rock subject have ever achieved. Yes it’s a mighty price tag, but those who have made the investment will be rewarded by a volume that superbly captures the visual essence of a guitarist who continues to command a loyalty and respect unrivalled amongst his peers.
That respect was well in evidence last night at the launch of this remarkable chronicle of the work and life of Jimmy Page – compiled by… Jimmy Page.

I couldn’t agree more with David Lewis. I just saw Bert Jansch tonight in Virginia. He was in spectacular form. Jimmy and Bert would be amazing together.
Just saw a deluxe copy available for 2000 USD on ebay. Man, that was fast!
Oh we forgot to mention the lovely Billy McCue was in attendance too!
The cheek! I flew all the way from NYC to attend and not a single mention in TBL or RH’s diary. Guess I’ll always be on the outside looking in…boo-hoo! Great shot of Pagey and Harper.

that man is a national treasure i would love to see jimmy team up with his long time hero bert jancsh now that would be a hell of a jam as jimmy has an uncanny knack of finding the right note at the right time that is something no matter how long you try to copy it can not be acheved as the man plays with such emotion hats off to jimmy page indeed
i just cannot wait until i get my hands on this book (both copies—- yes i ordered 2) the second copy is surely a investment i could not pass up on
Great report, Mr Lewis. I went to see the photos last thing yesterday. Good to see photos from the Kooyong show in Melbourne in ’72.
Can’t wait for the book to arrive. The Genesis staff at the exhibition told us that the delivery delays are due to problems with the binding of the cover. It’s just like the old days when issues with the cover artwork repeatedly delayed the release dates of Led Zeppelin’s albums!!!

Dave, thanks for being a witness for all of us in TBL land who would have loved to be present for this grand event but obviously can’t &/or wouldn’t have been invited. Oh to live in London. Ledhead58 if you haven’t picked up the Lid magazine I recommended it, very nice. I truly can’t wait till his book arrives, I’m thinking of popping the cork on a bottle of bubbly to share with the many friends who can’t wait for a peek. I bought a pair of archival gloves, which is a must to view this masterpiece. Regards
Dying to see my copy, ordered mine in May and just can not wait to hold it my hands and know that Jimmy had it in his hands…worth EVERY penny to the real fan of one of the most influential musicians of the last 50 years…Peace from the U.S.A…..
Dave, it’s so much fun to read your posts because you go to all events that I wish I could! Thanks for posting this. It just makes me all the more anxious for my copy to find its way to my door as soon as possible. (Did you get any pictures of the launch yourself that you could post?)
