Jimmy Page for Founders Award 2015 Honoree:
This is an annual fundraiser to benefit EMP’s youth programs, EMP’s Founders Award features legendary performers who have made substantial contributions to the field of music.
The annual Founders Award Celebration is EMP Museum’s signature fundraiser, celebrating the life’s work of living legends while meaningfully contributing to the institution’s extensive education programs.
This year, EMP will honor iconic musician Jimmy Page. Together with honorary chairs Paul G. Allen and Jody Allen, we are thrilled to honor Mr. Page’s exceptional influence on music history as a groundbreaking guitarist, legendary songwriter, and visionary producer.
This unique and unforgettable evening in honor of Mr. Page is EMP’s premier benefit event to support the museum’s youth artistic development programs. The evening will open with an elegant dinner and a thrilling live auction and culminate with an unforgettable concert as star musicians take the stage to pay tribute to Jimmy Page’s musical career.
At Founders Award, EMP proudly honors the artists whose contributions to music have touched the lives of many the world over. Founders Award has played host to a remarkable group of musical superstars, including: Jackson Browne; Billy Cox; Steve Cropper; Crosby, Stills & Nash; Buddy Guy; Robbie Roberton; Carlos Santana; and Ann & Nancy Wilson.
Founders Award will be held in EMP Museum’s magnificent Sky Church on November 19.
Inspired by a term Jimi Hendrix used to describe a place where people of all ages and cultures could come to collectively celebrate musical experiences, the venue is the perfect environment for Seattle’s business, civic, and cultural leaders to gather, collaborate, and enjoy an exquisite dinner and intimate concert.
Accompanied by state-of-the-art acoustics, the Sky Church setting creates an ideal performance experience, and the stage has hosted an amazing line-up of both legendary musicians and rising stars since the inaugural Founders Award celebration was held in 2007.

John Bonham Memorial Fund latest:
This report via the Redditch Standard…
Rock on down to Forge Mill to mark contribution of John Bonham to Redditch
LOCAL people are being invited along to a special one day event on Wednesday, November 11 at Forge Mill Museum, Redditch.
Organised by the John Bonham Memorial Fund, ‘John Bonham Remembered’ is being held in conjunction with the “Redditch People” exhibition, which features displays of people whose lives and achievements have influenced the growth or reputation of the town.
Visitors will not only be able to find out more about the Led Zeppelin drummer and rock legend but also help the fundraising group with their research into the early life of the star who was born and grew up in Redditch.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who knew or met John, and who would like to share their recollections of him, or perhaps have photographs of John from his school days or when he played local bands“ said Ros Sidaway, treasurer of the fund. “If people can come along on the day, we can either record their anecdotes there and then or arrange to do so at another time.”
Copies of Mick Bonham’s book, ‘John Bonham – The Powerhouse Behind Led Zeppelin’ will be available at the special price of £12 each and exclusive JBMF button badges will be on sale at £1 each. People will also be able to add their names to a register of support for the memorial. Donations may also be made online via www.johnbonhammemorialfund.com
“There will also be an announcement regarding the final stage of our fundraising campaign to enable a memorial to be erected in the town in 2016,” added Ros.
The JBMF is raising £50,000 for the design and installation of a permanent and fitting memorial to the local music legend who sadly died at the age of just 32 years on September 25, 1980.
The preferred location for the memorial is on the Church Green, next to the Bandstand, on land owned by Redditch Borough Council.
Local residents visiting on Wednesday are entitled to free admission to the exhibition until November 18, during the museum opening times of 11am to 4pm.

Tool dress up as Led Zep for Halloween appearance:
On October 31 ,Tool played their first (and presmuably last) show of 2015 at Tempe, Arizona’s Monster Mash Music Festival — you know, the one that Maynard James Keenan said the rest of the band conned him into doing. Although they didn’t have any news of a new album, duh, they did have have some special surprises in store for the audience. They opened the show by playing their cover of Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter” for the first time since 1998, and because it was Halloween, they did the whole thing dressed as Led Zeppelin. (“Good news, it’s fucking Halloween! Bad news, we are not Led Zeppelin,” Keenan said after the performance.)

As Wear Your Old Band T-Shirt To Work Day approaches, the BBC are on the hunt for the ultimate design:
The BBC have launched a poll to decide the greatest band t-shirt of all time. The poll is to mark the annual Wear Your Old Band T-Shirt To Work Day, which this year takes place on November 27 and has been running since 2008. The winning t-shirt will be put on display at the London Design Museum.
Contestant t-shirts include designs from Motorhead, Pink Floyd, Guns N’ Roses, Misfits, Metallica, Ramones, Rolling Stones, Misfits, Led Zeppein, Bad Brains and AC/DC. Missing from the shortlist are shirts adorned by Black Flag’s four bars, Dead Kennedys’ DK logo, The Who’s famous target, or Iron Maiden’s Eddie.
The shortlist was drawn up by a panel including including Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller, Yes album cover designer Roger Dean, illustrator Pete McKee, The Victoria & Albert Museum, and BBC 6 Music listeners and presenters.
“T-Shirt Day was originally aimed at finding an excuse for music fans to unearth one of their old band T-Shirts and wear it to work for a day,” says 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, “a bit like a badge of musical honour, which we thought might be fun because there are so many stories surrounding these shirts. What’s been brilliant, though, has been seeing the terrific array of band’s names being paraded on the day; old and new groups, some of them quite obscure. And sure enough, they all have a tale behind them.
“Over the past couple of years the day has now started becoming a bigger celebration of music-related T-shirts, saluting the designs and logos and the slogans, many of which have either ended up being quite iconic or deliberately notorious. That’s why this year we’ll also be attempting to crown the most popular or influential T-Shirt of all time with a vote among our listeners.”
The vote launches today, while the winner will be announced by Lamacq during his show on T-Shirt Day itself.

TBL Goes Digital:
Thanks for all your good wishes and feedback re the announcement of the TBL Digital launch. As reported last week issue 39 is available via the Magzter Newsstand now as a digital download – you can order via this link:
http://www.magzter.com/EK/Tight-But-Loose/Tight-But-Loose/Entertainment/132337
Just to re iterate – this is another method of accessing the TBL magazine – I have no plans to cease the publication of the much coveted physical magazine – of which TBL 40 will follow soon.
While on that subject, it’s likely the forthcoming TBL 40 issue will now be published and distributed in January 2016.
There’s a combination of factors affecting this, I am a waiting on some important text and also the recent circumstances here, have made it difficult to move it along as I would like.
Apologies for this – however I can say it will be worth waiting for as there is some excellent stuff lined up. More updates on this as it unfolds in the coming weeks. Many thanks for your support and patience in advance.
DL Diary Blog Update:
Not a great last few days here really – it became evident that TBL 40 will probably now shift back to being published in January – I had hoped it would be pre Christmas but that looks a tall order now given everything going on here.
There was further disappointment when I learned that plans for a stall to represent the Earls Court book (which I was to help run), at the forthcoming Olympia Record Fair next week had fallen through. I am hoping to be in attendance at the Fair anyway and look forward to seeing all that can make it along.
Janet’s mum Bet is now spending her fourth week in hospital – we are hoping for news of her coming home soon – and Janet has had on-going dental problems to sort. I have to say I had a bit of a meltdown earlier in the week and really had to have a serious talk with myself to get out of the negative zone. May I add that the good lady Janet has been and continues to be a fantastic support during these tricky times.
On to more positive vibes:
The cassette revival starts here. Wading through some researchs tuff for TBL 40 recently, I came across the mountain of cassettes amongst the DL collection. I still have great affection for the cassette format so here’s the first of a series of TBL cassette pet faves pics that will run on the TBL Facebook page – commencing with some early Led Zep…you gotta love em!
Friday vinyl treats at the Vinyl Barn in Bedford last Friday included David Bowie Aladdin Sane gatefold sleeve UK RCA pressing, Wishbone Ash first album on original UK MCA, John Coltrane’s classic Love Supreme and The Rolling Stones Metamorphosis album on US Abkco label – lovely stuff –thanks Darren.
I also picked up a couple of very nice singles recently namely CCS’s version of Whole Lotta love on Rak Records (this version was the arrangement used for the Top Of The Pops theme in the early 70s) plus the Squeeze rather wonderful Up The Junction by Squeeze on lilac vinyl. Both a snip at 50p each!
This Saturday I am aiming to pop in as it were, to the BedPop Pop Up Record Shop, being staged at The Ent Shed, Castle Road, Bedford, from 9am. There will be independent traders selling vinyl records ( including Darren Harte of the Vinyl Barn ) and live music through the day from 12. Quite litterally a Shed full of vinyl, with traders covering all the music genres – very conveniently The Ent Shed is part of the Gordon Arms pub – no bad thing!

On the player, The Faces recent CD box set – their irreverence, charm and emotional content hitting the mark in putting a smile back on my face. Also on the player – Bob Dylan Blonde On Blonde in readiness for the outpouring of 1965 and 1966 material due on the Bootleg Series Volume 12 Cutting Edge set.
Finally, on a poignant note, Rod Stewart is one of the artists performing at the The Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance – which is will be broadcast live on BBC One from the Royal Albert Hall on the evening of Saturday November 7 . Presented by Huw Edwards, the Festival will be performed in front of Her Majesty the Queen, members of the Royal Family, The Prime Minister and leaders of the opposition together with senior members of the military.
The Festival line-up includes Andrea Bocelli, Rod Stewart, Gregory Porter and Pixie Lott performing with the RAF Band, The Queen’s Colour Squadron, The Band of HM Royal Marines and the Band and Pipes of the Brigade of Gurkhas.
Rod will be performing his heartfelt tribute Way Back Home.
On Sunday morning there will be Remembrance Day parades and memorial services across the country and I am aiming to be at the service staged at Bedford Embankment.
Lest we never forget…
