JIMMY PAGE IN CONVERATION WITH KIRSTY LANG ON BBC WORLD SERVICE ON CHRISTMAS DAY

Here’s a you tube clip of the excellent BBC World Service Kirsty Lang interview with Jimmy Page aired on Christmas Day:

KENNEDY CENTER HONORS GALA ON CBS TV

The Kennedy Center Honors aired last night on CBS-TV to very positive reaction:

Here are some feedback comments from the TBL Facebook page and email :

Just finished watching the Kennedy Honors – WOW what a show. The tribute to Zeppelin was amazing especially Stairway.. “My tears they fell like rain” So happy for them – what a great year! Kathy Urich

Loved Jason, I was thinking “yeah he’s got his dad’s hat on”….the Bowler hat..but when the second Stairway To Heaven  backdrop chorus came on – ALL wearing Bowler hats….I just began to cry. Stephanie Zavras

Finally got to see the Kennedy Centre Awards tonight. Apart from the incredibly annoying strobes it was pretty good. Don’t know if you’ve seen it so I won’t spoil it for you, but at the end when the big curtain came up Plant was welling up and so was I. A really touching tribute. Rob Godwin

Here’s an interview clip with Anne and Nancy Wilson talking about  performing “Stairway To Heaven” in honor of Led Zeppelin and in the presence of the band and the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama.

DL DIARY UPDATE:

Many thanks again for all the Christmas cards, comments and general feedback these last few weeks which has been very inspiring.

The Led Zep tie was duly worn on Christmas Eve and it was good to hook up Tom and Dec and Michaela and her gang. Christmas Day and Boxing Day was spent with the family here and Janet’s Mum Betty and we had a lovely relaxing time. Betty brought me a rather splendid watch and other gifts included the Pete Townshend and Danny Baker books, Julian Cope Compendium book (thank you Andrew R!), the superb Elvis Presley Prince From Another Planet package (it showcases the June 1972 Madison Square Garden gig that Zep attended) and the excellent Quick Diet San Diego May 1973 Zep set on the Godfather Records label, Frank Sinatra Man & His Music and David Bowie Cracked Actor DVD’s (thank your John P!) Last night I enjoyed watching the highlights of  Spurs 4 -0 victory  at Aston Villa.

It’s back to TBL matters today with a heap of projects to pick up on, not least the coming together of TBL 34 for publication early in the new year. 2013 is already looking well packed with many challenges ahead.

GERRY ANDERSON 1929 – 2012

It was very sad to hear of the passing of Gerry Anderson yeterday, the creator of many TV shows of the 1960 and 70s including Supercar, Fireball XL5, Thunderbirds, Stingray, Joe 90 etc.

H shaped countless childhoods – certainly mine circa 1962 -1968. Like the music of Led Zeppelin…he took you to faraway places with new dreams to dream. The Fireball XL5 theme by Don Spencer was one of the first records I ever owned and it’s still one of my favourite songs…had a lump in my throat hearing this again in the light of the sad news…

Gerry Anderson RIP …Totally forever iconic.

AND FINALLY:

Stairway To Heaven as performed at the Kennedy Honors Gala…..yet more emotion – watching this today, I felt the same emotions as I did the first time I ever heard the song back in 1971…..this moving performance  has elevated this song right back up to the pinnacle of their many achievements  – watching their reaction confirms it… and Jason’s presence brings it all full circle…

Until next time… keep reading -keep listening

I have some questions that I haven’t seen addressed in any of the press coverage thus far:

Was Jason Bonham able to collect the Kennedy medal from their Board of Trustee members while in Washington, on behalf of his father as a posthumous honoree?

Also, I note that some of the ceremonial presenters were past honorees (Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and such). Could not the likes of past recipients Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John or Paul McCartney been recruited to induct Led Zeppelin, instead of the irrelevant Hollywood actor Jack Black, whose toast seemed discomfitting in contrast to others on the program?
