In an exclusive interview for the forthcoming new issue of the TBL magazine, Justin Adams comments on how much he enjoyed last week’s debut appearance of the Sensational Space Shifters. ’’It was a really exciting night and so good to be back on stage with Robert’’ he told Dave Lewis. ‘’We are all great friends in this band and we love to play. I think what we are doing in this line up is pretty unique in the way Juldeh and Patty are involved. It’s a really creative unit of musicians and for a first gig we had a great time.’’

Talking about the set list he added ‘’ Witchdoctor is a really good one to do –doing the way we do it we can add West African scales to it and Juldeh can stamp his own feel. That’s really the beauty of this line up. I also really liked doing the version of 44  because I don’t think anyone has done that for a good while. Something like Smokestack Lightening has been covered a lot but it was really exciting to take on 44 and make it really swing which I think we did. It was also great to play Patty’s songs like No Bad News which is really nice and hearing Robert sing Song To The Siren is always special.  We have also never really been able to play Somebody Knocking that well before but with Juldeh’s contributions that really worked out well’’.

Justin’s own band line up Ju Ju which features fellow Space Shifters Juldeh Camara, Billy Fuller on bass and Dave Smith drums, have a list of gigs lined up over the summer ‘’ ‘’That’s going really well –we played in a tent in Norwich last night and the place really rocked out. It’s a bit of an endless tour and we have plenty of things lined up. We are in London at the Borderline this Thursday and then we are off to Europe and then back for some festival dates and we are in Frome the day after the Space Shifters London gig. We are also taking part in the BT River of Music Festival at London’s Pleasure Gardens on July 21st. We’ll be going under the name Invisible Republic of Ju Ju – it’s an Olympic linked event and we are representing Africa.’’
