Former Melody Maker editor and author Chris Charlesworth is coming along to talk about his time on the road with Zep – he will also talk about and have copies available of his new Elvis Presley book Caught In A Trap: the Kidnapping of Elvis.

The venue:
The pub is about four minutes walk from West Brompton tube station – which has London Overground and Underground services.
The pub has a full food menu with a Sunday roast on offer.
Their regular real ale is Timothy Taylor Landlord, and there will be several other beers there on the day. Also they have lagers, cider, wines, etc as you would expect from a pub.
The Rooms:
We will be using two upstairs function rooms on the day
What we might term the Bron- Yr- Aur chill out bar is to the left – this has a bar, seats and sofas and will be ideal for catching up, chilling out and discussing the obvious topics etc.
To the right, there is an adjoining room with a large screen and this is were we will stage the main events – DVD playbacks, footage, guest speaker slots and the quiz.
Julian and I visited the pub to look everything over on Tuesday – it’s an excellent pub with very friendly staff and an inviting atmosphere.
The two function rooms will be ideal for what we want to do.
That is celebrate this milestone Led Zeppelin anniversary with like minded people and have a whole lotta fun doing so.
Entry fee:
The entry fee to attend is £7.50
This is to cover the hire of the rooms and our admin costs.

This is subject to change – but as an idea of what it is in store this is what is planned:
2pm – 4pm -Introduction/various footage /news footage/ official rehearsal footage etc.
4pm – 5pm – 50 years of Led Zeppelin – various footage from 1968 to 2017
5pm -6pm – The 02 Reunion Quiz – prizes to be won!
6pm – 7pm – Personal fan memories of the 02 Reunion night and guest speaker slots
7pm – 9.30 Screening of The Celebration Day film plus more guest speaker reflections
So join us for a day and night of events to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the historic Led Zeppelin’s 02 reunion for the memory of Ahmet Ertegun.
A unique TBL Led Zeppelin fan gathering staged exactly ten years gone from that night of nights.

- The restored and mastered transfer of the alternate source of Led Zeppelin’s June 21, 1977 show is complete and has been uploaded to YouTube. It’s available to listen to in the original format, or as the complete show with gaps added in between tracks.
- Led Zeppelin magazine Tight But Loose is planning a fan meet-up event on December 10 in London to mark a decade since Led Zeppelin’s 2007 reunion. You can find out more details about the event here.
- The latest episode of Led Zeppelin podcast Ramble On Radio includes an interview with Martin Popoff, the author of the new book “Led Zeppelin: All the Albums, All the Songs.”
Jimmy Page

- The release of “Yardbirds ’68” has been delayed to next week. Customers who bought the album through Jimmy Page’s website received an email this week informing them that their orders would be shipped next week, not this week. Page also published four images showing the booklet that comes with the album.
- Many new photographs of Jimmy Page’s talk at the Oxford Union on October 23 have been published online. The Oxford Union published an album of photos on Facebook, and photographer Nasir Hamed published some photos on his blog.
- Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett shared a photo of himself and Jimmy Page in London from “a few weeks back.” See the photo here.
Robert Plant
Many new interviews with Robert Plant were published this week. He spoke to NPR as well as New York radio station WFUV. And he was also interviewed by The Los Angeles Times, Uproxx, Samaritan Mag, and The Guardian. Plant curated a Spotify playlist of his career for The Guardian, and you can listen to it here.
Plant told WFUV that “it’s always been a disappointment” that people “missed the point” of Led Zeppelin. He said in his interview with The Los Angeles Times that he likes to pretend his phone is broken when he gets calls about reforming Led Zeppelin. And he told Uproxx that he “sometimes” meets up with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones to “have tea and cake.”

The Song Remains The Same Film at 41:
41 years ago this month saw the premiere of the accompanying movie. This occurred at the Warner West End cinema in London’s Leicester Square although such was the demand the film was also screened at the nearby Shaftesbury Avenue ABC theatre.
We got tickets by queuing overnight in early October. Sleep was at a minimum that night as the disco next to the Warner West End cinema blasted out a diet of Barry White and the like until the early hours. All worth it of course.
Two nights before the premiere The Old Grey Whistle Test screened the famous river boat interview with Peter Grant and Robert Plant and the violin bow segment of Dazed And Confused leading up to the coloured swords being brandished . ‘’That’s an amazing piece of film’’ murmured the legendary Bob Harris -and indeed it was. Incidentally BBC’s Film Night aired a clip the following Sunday for which the late legendary long running presenter Barry Norman in his familiar style commented ‘’Let’s all go down like a Led Zeppelin…and why not.’’
The premiere on the night of Thursday November 4 1976 was another unforgettable occasion with many memories ingrained on my brain:
Here’s a few: Jimmy being ushered up the stairs of the cinema on arrival by John Bindon right next to me….shaking hands with Peter Grant and Bonzo as they waited for the photo call….standing up to allow Roy Wood and Billy Connolly to get to his seat two along from where we sat….a standing ovation as Jimmy, Robert, John and Bonzo took their seats…..spontaneous applause after every song performance -it was almost like attending a gig…. Bonzo and Jonesy with families gathering in the foyer afterwards…passing Paul McCartney on the way into the toliet (no jokes at the back!)…..Robert eyeing the cardboard obeleisk/object card board cut out that I wore around my neck entwined with my scarf for the occasion as we chatted in the foyer.
Let me explain this interesting fashion look. Basically I took one of the cardboard obelisks that made up the hanging Presence mobile I had and swung it around my neck in a unique (plainly odd!) fashion statement – I cant it say it’s a look that caught on but hey it was for a special occasion!….The aforementioned Billy Connolly telling me the film had been ‘’A wee bit brilliant’’ in his famous Scottish brogue…watching them all get into limos as they sped off for the aftershow party in Covent Garden. A simply unforgettable night in their company.
My then girlfriend Fiona and I were back for the screening at the Warner West End the next night and on the Saturday. I went on to see the film over 30 times in various cinemas over the next 18 months – along with those first three nights it played in London, I saw it in Cambridge a couple of times the next week, every night (twice on Friday) of its seven day residency at Bedford’s Granada the following January, at a run down cinema in Western Favell in Northampton on a snow bound night with my good friend Dec that involved catching two busses to find the place…at a midnight night showing along with a couple of porn skin flicks in Luton (ooer!) and then there were periodical trips to the Essential, small picture house in London’s Wardour Street that showed seasons of rock films in rotation (anyone else remember that tiny place?).
In early 1981 I brought it on a dreadful quality VHS bootleg copy in a shop off Tottenham Court Road – all colour drop out but hey, any time I wanted to – I could rewind to Jimmy climbing that mountain so who cared!
All that endeavour seems faintly ridiculous now considering the fact it’s now all over YouTube – but hey, it was the thrill of the search and as they couldn’t play live during that period, then the film was definitely the next best thing.
There are of course many highlights in the film not least the amazing Since Ive Been Loving You – one of my other favourite clips is the opening sequence of The Song Remains The Same – as the camera blurs slightly then captures the action face on with Jimmy slaying around the Gibson double neck in between Robert’s struts.
Somewhere over the next week I’m going to find a couple of hours to wallow in the pure nostalgia of the DVD and recall those heady days of November 1976.

Led Zeppelin – I Told You Baby Long Time Ago – Scandinavia March 1969 ( Casino Records -limited edition of 450 on clear splatter vinyl)
I’ve just taken receipt of this is latest Zep vinyl release from the Casino label – a follow up to their excellent Berkeley Days Second Night package that came out earlier this year.
This is a single album that hones in on two Scandinavian performances in March 1969. Side One has parts of the March 14 early evening performance at the Koncerthuset in Stockholm taken from the FM radio broadcast. Side two is an audience tape of material from the afternoon Gladsaxe Teen Club show at Egegaard,Skole in Denmark on March 15 1969.
Some excellent performances are captured on this very nice package – PVC outer and thick cover with a two sided colour insert, 450 only pressed on clear splatter vinyl.

DL Diary Blog Update:
Friday treats at the Vinyl Barn –at the always excellent and packed with fresh stock Vinyl Barn last Friday, I was well pleased to purchase a copy of the elaborately packaged Groundhogs album Who Will Save The World? The Mighty Groundhogs! Original UK pressing on United Artists complete with inner bag and fold out sleeve. Top result -–thanks Darren!
We had a great day last weekend in St Albans celebrating our good friend Max Harris’ birthday. A visit to the always excellent Empire Records was on the agenda and it was good to see TBL product on display there.
On Tuesday afternoon, I went to visit Mark Harrison in Leighton Buzzard. It was fantastic to catch up with him – many of you will know that Mark’s enthusiasm for Led Zep/Jimmy Page over many years is second to none. Over at Mark’s place, we watched some of the Earls Court DVD footage in total awe and also checked out a fairly new record shop in the town. Black Circle Records is run by David Kosky who I worked with at Virgin way back. It’s a great little shop full of interesting stuff. I purchased a 1967 Lulu album on the Ace Of Clubs/Decca label that has Jimmy playing on a few tracks. The pic here is taken in the shop – Mark and I in front of a very nice framed copy of the famous Oakland 1977 poster. All in all it was a heart- warming and cathartic visit – thanks Mark!
There’s been ongoing work this week at StudioMix liaising with designer Mick Lowe on the Evenings With LZ book. A round of re checking text and overseeing design – and co -author Mike Tremaglio has been coming through with some amazing text and images. All a long way to go but we move ever onward with it…
