LED ZEPPELIN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: FEBRUARY 27, 2018…

Limited Edition 7-Inch Single, Produced By Jimmy Page.

To Be Released On Record Store Day Featuring Unreleased Versions Of “Rock And Roll” And “Friends”

Available April 21 – Exclusively At Independent Music Retailers

In advance of Led Zeppelin’s 50th Anniversary celebration, slated to commence this September, the band will whet fan’s appetites with their first ever release for Record Store Day on April 21. The limited edition 7-inch single is produced by Jimmy Page and pressed on yellow vinyl. The single will feature two previously unheard studio mixes, handpicked by Page to appear on the release: the “Sunset Sound Mix” of “Rock And Roll” b/w the “Olympic Studios Mix” of “Friends.”

The previously unreleased version of “Rock And Roll” provides an additional peek into the fabled “Sunset Sound Mixes” of Led Zeppelin IV. Only two previous “Sunset Sound Mixes” have been released, the first being the version of “When The Levee Breaks” on the original album and the second the “Stairway To Heaven” mix that debuted on the 2014 deluxe edition. The previously unheard “Olympic Studios Mix” of “Friends” is a stripped-down version, without the orchestration of the final mix, offering a true fly-on-the-wall feel from the band’s recording sessions for Led Zeppelin III at Headley Grange.

Additionally, Led Zeppelin will release a newly remastered version of their classic live album How The West Was Won in multiple formats on March 23 including the first ever vinyl and Blu-ray Audio editions (with the Blu-ray containing hi-res 5.1 surround sound). The collection captures performances from Led Zeppelin’s legendary concerts at the Los Angeles Forum and Long Beach Arena on June 25 and 27, 1972. Melded together and sequenced to replicate a single concert from beginning to end, the three-CD and four-LP collections capture the band at the height of its formidable powers.

………………….

Record Store Day is the annual event inaugurated in 2007 and held on one Saturday every April to “celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store”. The day brings together fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores across the world.

A number of records are pressed specifically for Record Store Day, with a unique list of releases for each country, and are only distributed to shops participating in the event. The event began in the United States and remains headquartered there. Record Store Day has official international organizers in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Australia, and Spain.

This year’s full list is set to be announced on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 – keep an eye on https://recordstoreday.co.uk/home/ On

On that day there will be various Record Store Day launch day events.

I have long since been an avid supporter of this yearly event – one of the key record buying days in the calendar. Indeed, in the past few years I have routinely got up at the crack of dawn along with the TBL local gang of Phil Harris, Tom, Max, Steve L and Dec when he was in London, to join the queues  on Record Store Day – initially at the Rough Trade store in Notting Hill and more recently at David’s store in Letchworth. In recent years I’ve been in line to snap up Zep related RSD releases by The Yardbirds, Them Crooked Vultures, Robert Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters, Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes and the Jimmy Page solo single reissue of She Just Satisfies – the pic below was taken at David’s in Letchworth on Record Store Day 2016.

I have long since hoped for a Led Zeppelin release so this news today is hugely exciting. I am a big Led Zeppelin fan and record collector (you may have noticed!) and I  will certainly be in the queue to endeavour to obtain what will surely be one of the most in demand item of this year’s Record Store Day line up.

The countdown commences…53 days to go and counting….

Why oh why can’t us folk who can’t get the time out to buy these things not have an option to buy – unless we’re going to be able to get them later in the year of course?

It’s great to have a release for RSD, my only disappointment is the figure of 5,000, which is simply not enough. As a singles collector I’ll be trying my utmost to get a copy. I imagine I might find it easier to get one up North, than you guys down the smoke.

Great News Dave. I knew this would happen but I thought All My Love and Custard Pie would be released. Fooled again by Mr Page!
