Robert Plant Jams with Bev Bevan In Aid Of Birmingham Hospital
Robert Plant made an unannounced appearance at BBC WM’s ‘Bev’s Big Bash’ at the Jam House in Birmingham on 27th October 2009. ELO star Bev had organised the charity bash to raise money for the Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital Kidney Kids Appeal. Bev and his band, Bev Bevan’s Move, took to the stage along with soul singer Ruby Turner and Belle Sorelle (X Factor boot camp runners up), and were joined by Robert later in the evening for a mini set of standards. As Robert began his set he said to the 350 strong crowd, “We’re in the Premiership now!” and joked with the audience: “Seeing how old you are I’m surprised you’re out so late.”
In total, £1,788 was raised for the BBC WM Kidney Kids Appeal, adding to the already raised £1 million going towards the much needed £1.5 million target to buy a new renal unit for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Although I have grave misgivings about medical equipment being fund raised in such a manner, I have to applaud Robert Plant for giving his time to help this worthy cause. Time is an inelastic commodity of which we all have a limited supply of compared to money.
He sang Need Your Love So Bad, and Mess of Blues. It was a bit of a busk, but great all the same!
Any chance of finding out what songs were played? “mini set of standards” doesn’t really tell us much. Cheers.
Love,
Billy
