Robert Plant & The Band Of Joy took part in the final  show of the current series of BBC2’s Later With Jools Holland last night. They appeared alongside Arcade Fire, soul legend Mavis Staples, Nashville four piece Mona, Adele and Indian folk singer Raghu Dixit.

For the Later Live edition aired last night on BBC2, Robert and the band performed House Of Cards and Robert also conducted an interview with Jools Holland. During the segment a vintage clip of Robert performing Big Log on Top of The Pops was aired. ‘’Nice jump suit’’ he quipped’’

Robert also recorded another interview with Jools Holland sitting at the piano and they also performed two other songs from the Band Of Joy album for possible inclusion on the extended version of the show which goes out on BBC2 on Friday November 19th at 12 midnight and is repeated on Saturday November 20th at 11.20pm.  More details at www.bbc.co.uk/later/

In between takes Robert and the band watched the other artists record their slots showing much enthusiasm in particular for Mavis Staples. Robert was also most impressed with the vocalist from Mona.

The Band Of Joy performances tonight were every bit as compelling as the first occasion I viewed them back in early September. It’s been a real blast watching this band evolve into what Robert described to me as ‘’A mighty rumble’’. The Band Of Joy tour continues into 2011 with a return to the US early in the new year. Catch it wherever you can…
