Following their shows in New York, Charlotte and Atlanta and the appearance on Saturday Night Live last weekend, Them Crooked Vultures have announced two further US shows in April. They play The Joint, Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, NV on April 17th and The Filmore Auditorium in Denver,CO on April 19th. Tickets for both shows are now on sale.

Below is a clip from the resently aired Austin City Limits show.

News from Led Zeppelin News.com. It has been reported that Robert Plant has been working on a new solo album produced by Buddy Miller in Nashville, tentatively called “It’s Rude to Say No”. These reports come from an interview with Tom Netherland from the Herald Courier who interviewed singer-songwriter Darrell Scott.

Netherland reports that Scott played mandolin and glockenspiel on the forthcoming album. He is one of a few key players in a tight-knit band appearing on the record”, Netherland reports. While the other musicians comprising Plant’s new studio line-up have not been identified, Scott does provide a few insights from the sessions. One is the revelation that Plant was singing classic songs including “Cindy,” a traditional bluegrass number also recorded and performed under the title “Get Along Home, Cindy.” These sessions have previously reported to have taken place in Nashville before Christmas, Scott states.  “Those two-plus weeks were some of the most memorable times I’ve ever had in the studio. … The number-one thing is that Robert loves music. You think they’re posing and just getting through it, but I was humbled with how Robert Plant loved the music — old country, blues, rockabilly.”

News on the Abbey Road charity gig: American singer-songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman has said in an interview “I’m so excited about performing at Abbey Road with Robert Plant and a 72 voice choir on Feb 25th. Also performing will be David Gray & Newton Faulkner. It’s to raise money for Cancer Research UK. It’s going to be some night!”

Patron of the charity and host for the night, BBC Radio 2 DJ Bob Harris, said last week, “I’m thrilled and proud that Robert Plant is taking part in this year’s Sound & Vision. We have a lot of history together — he even performed an impromptu gig for my 60th birthday party — so it’s great to have him on board. It’s truly inspiring to see him and so many other respected names from the music and photography industry come together to help raise money for Cancer Research UK’s lifesaving work.”
Two days remain in the eBay auction for two tickets to the event plus an official programme autographed by Plant. At the last look the top bid was £700.

And finally just when you thought it safe to return to the charts, it’s been announced that R & B singer Mary J Blige has teamed up with Blink-182’s Travis Barker for a cover of ‘Stairway To Heaven’. The soul singer also drafted in Steve Vai, American Idol judge Randy Jackson and Michael Jackson’s ex-touring guitarist Orianthi for a “unique take on the 1971 rock classic”. Currently in the midst of recording the song at Studio A at Hollywood’s Capitol Records building, Blige told Spinner.com: “I think this song is not hard at all because it’s based on pure emotion. You gotta get lost in the rock ‘n’ roll moment of it all, and once you get lost in the rock ‘n’ roll moment of it all you can do is scream to the top of your lungs or go as low as you need to go. It’s not a head thing – it’s a spirit thing.” The cover will appear as a bonus track on the European release of Blige’s new album ‘Stronger With Each Tear’ on March 15th. Erm…can’t wait! And how about this for a thought…Mary J Blige and Randy Jackson are both on the invited list for the China Peace concert, Jacksons guitarist Orianthi is already confirmed for the show…..no tell me it won’t happen!(GF)

Great news about the new Plant album. His material in the 2000’s was his best since the days of Zeppelin. Hopefully there will be tour as well.
