Other Robert Plant news;

Tomorrow September 30, Robert Plant & The Band of Joy are set to appear at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Speedway Meadow Golden Gate Park in San Francisco CA.

Robert Plant has collaborated with West End tenor Alfie Boe, who is best known for his portrayal as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables.
The pair have recorded a cover of Tim Buckley’s “Song to the Siren,” which will surface on Boe’s new album Alfie, to be released on October 31. Robert Plant had previously recorded the song on his 2002 solo album Dreamland.
Boe told the Sunday Mercury that the two met by chance in a bar and realized they were fans of each others’ work. Says Boe: “There are many people in the music business that I would love to collaborate with – but top of the list has always been Robert Plant. I’m a huge fan of classic rock. To get the chance to duet with him is a wonderful opportunity. It’s fantastic! He’s always been a real hero of mine.”
The Mercury quotes a Decca Records insider who says the collaboration may even lead to live shows. “The exciting news is that this collaboration may soon be witnessed in the flesh, too,” the insider said.
In a recent interview with Planet Rock Jeff Beck hinted at a possible collaboration with Robert Plant.
“I met him recently,” Jeff told Rob Birnie. “He came into my dressing room. I was playing in the New Orleans Jazz Rock Blues Festival. I said to my manager ‘Get out of my dressing room and let me sleep for 20 minutes. I haven’t slept all night. You let anybody in here and i’m gonna knock em out.’ And then I hear ‘Alright. How you doin’?’ and it was Robert Plant! “We had a lovely chat. I think maybe he saw the act; I put on a pretty good show. And I think that there may be something there. Who knows?
“I think that the common denominator would be the Eastern, you know, the kind of Arabic… I love that. That’s prevalent in Zeppelin’s music. The quarter tone scale, I just love that. There’s more mileage in that… the exciting rhythms that he likes. “We’re both pretty busy at the moment but if the desire’s there you make it happen.”
Jeff appeared on Robert’s Honeydripper album and jammed with him onThe Jools Holland show back in 2003.
Here’s Robert in action with one time Jeff Beck cohorts Big Town Play Boys back in 1986.

it was revealed on www.jimmypage.com that Jimmy will be releasing his 1982 soundtrack to Michael Winner’s Death Wish II, featuring a previously unreleased instrumental version of the Death Wish main title and new liner notes.
Explaining the release of the album, Jimmy said: “In 1981, Michael Winner asked me if I would compose the soundtrack to Death Wish II. The songs with vocals were only going to appear in the film for a matter of seconds but I had recorded full versions of them anyway – which is how I ended up doing my first soundtrack and soundtrack album. I’ve re-released this because I wanted it to be available again.”
The vinyl only release will be limited to 1000 copies and available only via www.jimmypage.com

Tonight Thursday September 29 via the Bristol/South Wales stations Phoenix Radio/GTFM 107.9, Dave Lewis can be heard talking about the legacy of John Bonham and the Feather In The Wind book on the Andy Fox GTFM Rock Show from 10pm – see www.gtfm.co.uk

And Finally……
…..George F Blackburn of Bethalto, Missouri, was in a courthouse doing the paperwork for the split from his third wife when he decided to fill in one more form. He legally changed his name to Led Zeppelin II. Mr Zeppelin II said “They changed my life forever, and that’s my whole reason for doing this. I don’t want to appear to be some off-the-wall drug addict idiot. I just changed my name from the standpoint that I can be a better person than I used to be.” He said Zeppelin fans buy him drinks when they find out his legal title.

And absolutely finally – What Zep loving Asian dudes do in their bedroom…

This version of Misty Mountain Hop is AWFUL. Saw BOJ and it was no Joy either. Now he’s out to ruin opera. I’ll give him credit for going out and attempting to deliver and that’s it. I refuse to burden my ears with anymore unoriginal nonsense.

Dave thanks for the back issues a subscription request will follow.

Mark yes Jimmy really is needed .Perhaps he should send a couple of the zep roadcrew around to Rob’s to kick some sense into him. Although that’s probably already been tried.Ah well.
I was standing directly behind the mixing desk for The Band of Joy at the Forum Kentish Town last year and was utterly entranced by Robert’s performance. So there are 2 sides .
But let’s see the other one. Cos I really want to see Jimmy play again.
And I’m not sure if it’ll happen again otherwise.

Hi Dave, TBL 30 arrived in my letterbox on Friday. It couldn’t have arrived in Australia faster, even if you had brought it to me yourself! Once again, it’s a fantastic effort. Congratulations! I’m an avid reader of Mojo, Q, Uncut, Record Collector and Rolling Stone but my subscription to TBL is far and away the best value for money. Cheers, Michael

Alfie Boe is gewnuinly a rock fan, i’ve heard him wax lyrical about Iron Maiden, Zep and Queen so lets hope this collaboration works.

Many thanks for the latest issue and the picture you dug out from the book signing, bloody hell we look young!!

Oh I also wanted to say TBL #30 really great read. Thanks for all you folks do at TBL to bring the world of Zeppelin to us “can’t get enough” fans.

Dave thanks for the news. I’m not crazy about Crown Vic’s version of MMH or BD, but I won’t say any more as I have exhausted that debate on the LZ forum. I however really like Tear It Up. The Alfie Boe collaboration should be interesting, will have to wait & hear. I can’t wait to get my hands on the release of Death Wish II vinyl, or at least I’m gonna try. The Asian Shower dudes we’re pretty funny just what I need before I head out to a very long day at work. I wonder if I would be treated differently by my co-workers if I changed my name to Kathy “Pagey”. Have a great day folks.

The Crown Vic stuff looks and sounds really good,a hint of things to come perhaps.Although with the duet with Alfie Boe,who knows which way Robert will turn next..opera with JPJ anyone?
Thanks for posting the dudes version of Wanton song. One question though..Did Robert ever dance like that?
