As we move into February, the Robert Plant and The Band Of Joy tour continues across America – here’s a round up of the tour progress so far:

New songs worked into the set include a radically reworked version of Black Dog, a version of Nobody’s Fault But Mine that lends itself more to the Unledded version than the sonic Presence version and an excellent arrangement of Ramble On -while numbers such as In The Mood, Silver Rider and Cindy have re-appeared.  The press coverage has been universally positive and even the fan based blogs are coming round to Robert’s way of thinking. With an appearance  on the Late Show With David Letterman on February 4th (CBS), nominations at the Grammys (Feb 13th)and the Brit’s (Feb 15th) and new dates for April and June including a round of  US festival dates that includes the confirmed Teeluride Bluegrass Festival (June 16h-19th) and rumoured Bonnaroo Festival (June 9th -12th), The Band Of Joy look set to rumble on.

There have also been some excellent Robert Plant interviews – be sure to check out this one  from The Guardian. and this from the Wall Street Journal. This interview from American Song Writer.com from July last year is also worth looking at as is this Radio show from Nashville recorded in January Nashville Radio RobertPlant.mp3

Also worth checking out: This month’s Uncut magazine with a cover feature on the rise and demise of the Swan Song label. David Cavanagh’s piece on the rise and fall of Led Zeppelin’s Swan Song empire, is an illuminating look into the Swan Song story.

Legendary Midlands based  singer songwriter Roy Wood has a new compilation due out soon .‘Music Book’ is a 35-track compilation, mastered and arranged by Wood himself, spanning the 45 prolific years of his career to date, taking in an array of musical styles, including psychedelic pop, rock ‘n’ roll and jazz. The compilation includes his early successes with the ground-breaking and hugely influential Move, who scored nine Top 20 singles in five years, as well as Wizard; a band he formed in 1972, who, with their large string section ensemble and love of early ‘60s rock ‘n’ roll, have Wood often cited as the British Phil Spector. Of interest to Led Zep fans is the inclusion of the excellent Keep You Hands On The Wheel. Recorded in 1978 it features John Bonham on drums – Bonzo beefs this track up in Zep style fashion. More details on this release soon.

It was reported on many press agency that Jimmy Page recently holidayed in Cuba, staying at the plush old Havana’s Hotel Saratoga, which has housed other international figures of rock and roll. Whilst on the islan, the  Page trip included tours of historic sites, and purchases of souvenirs  such as the famous photograph of Che Guevara taken by Alberto Korda and albums by local artists.
After learning of Jimmy’s visit, a number of local musicians tried to meet him. Musicians from the local band Tesis de Menta, a flagship of rock in Cuba, and well-known radio host and vocalist Juan Camacho, fulfilled their “dream” of meeting and talking with him.
After being mobbed in the hotel lobby, Page, dressed in shorts and a black T-shirt, talked for almost 20 minutes with the Cuban musicians about different aspects of his career. He was interested in the work of the theatre Maxim Rock, headquarters of the Cuban Rock Agency, and the influence of Led Zeppelin on the local scene.
Tesis de Menta singer Beatrix Lopez told local press that Page, “with a youthful spirit” and “very strong,” talked about his friendship with the British guitarist Jeff Beck, who was part of the celebrated band The Yardbirds in the 1960s. He passionately praised the work of the Belgian singer with Arab roots Natasha Atlas, considered a cult figure in the European underground scene.
Perdomo, leader of the band Tesis de Menta, added that the Page also expressed interest in Cuban rock and the different genres on the island.
Incidentally it was also reported that Robert Plant visited Cuba some years ago.

It’s with a heavy heart that I reveal the news that all girl Zeppelin tribute act Zepparella have parted ways.

After a stellar five years, vocalist Anna Kristina and bassist Nila Minnerok will be leaving Led Zeppelin powerhouse tribute band ZEPPARELLA to pursue other interests. With two live albums, countless shows and an unforgettable journey under their belts, the band members have amicably opted for a change.

Guitarist Gretchen Menn and drummer Clementine will continue on as Zepparella with a new line-up, as yet to be announced. After seeing the video below, we at camp TBL were hoping for an appearance at this year Zep Fest in Washington.  Enjoy this clip! (GF)
