Robert Plant hasn’t been in Estonia since July 13, 2001. That concert was a gig of the Firenight Festival. And now he has visited Estonia with his Dreamland show. Although it was the part of the Augustibluus Festival Plant’s performance looked like a separate gig. The concert was held in the yard of a medieval castle, known for its legend of White Lady and situated in a very picturesque place not far from Tallin that could be used ideally for shooting films.

Almost all the tickets for this concert were sold out a week ago. A few people had an opportunity to buy tickets before concert but the amount of the tickets was very limited. The gate for the audience was opened at 18:00. Before Robert took the stage, the concertgoers watched the opening act, Ultuma Thule, an estonian group. People responded to it limply and preferred to drink beer instead of looking at the group. But the crowd was growing and filled the whole space of the yard. Those who couldn’t purchase the tickets strategically arranged near the walls outside. Concerts are not rare in Haapsalu, but this concert gathered a record amount of audience – 6,000. LZ fans from Riga came to this show too even though Plant and his group would be playing in Latvia the next day. The Ultima Thule’s set was very short and people were glad at this fact. Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation’s show started at 21:00. The sound was very good according to the men that were there. The group was in the excellent form and its playing was powerful. But during the song Going to California Robert’s microphone was suddenly switched off. Plant stopped singing, asked the audience about the sound and when the microphone was arranged he began the song again.

People who knew the staff of the Strange Sensation noticed that there wasn’t Charlie Jones. Instead of him there was a new bassist Billy Fuller. After Hey Joe Plant introduced the staff of the group and when he turned to Billy he presented him as “a boyfriend of Britney Spears”. There wasn’t also Porl Tompson (ex-The Cure). The young longhaired Liam “Skin”Tyson (ex-the Cast) took his place. The appearance of these two men gave spontaneous improvisation and rhythmical pattern to the sound of the Strange Sensation – which ensured a more powerful and rounded sound.

After the show Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation sat in their violet two-storeyed bus and went to Paralepa. The next morning they left for Riga.

Thanks Yeremina Yelena with Sergey Volchenko
