Review from Alan Craik.
Last night was the first time I’ve seen him since the two Led Zeppelin Knebworth concerts back circa 1979, which stick in my mind as my best gigs ever. I reckon he’s the best vocalist around and has been for the last 30 years or so by some distance. I saw U2 last year and obviously Bono is very charismatic and excellent in his way. Also I saw Deep Purple earlier this year (when Ian Gillan had a cold) and Gillan comes close plus he has a wicked sense of humour.
Bob was very relaxed, cracking numerous funnies about Kylie, her ass and the windy trip down from Shropshire. He could do no wrong, drinking tea and cracking jokes about Sanatogen. The set list was much the same as the others listed so far and highlights for me were Morning Dew, Ramble On and a brilliant Whole Lotta Love to finish with, met by the 2000 or so audience with complete joy and admiration. He seemed genuinely appreciative when he left the stage, even after all his years of success.
The band were excellent but for me, they’re playing in Robert Plant’s shadow.

Band on great form after a few nights off, & the voice was immaculate – better than I had dared to hope. Post gig, chatted about Stourbridge grammar school ( which got a mention in an intro !) as we are both old boys, although not contemporaries. A great show, a great man….wish I’d gone to more of the gigs now. Roll on next time.

Guildhall nice old building and a traditional venue for concerts holding approx 1800 people with some seating and standing downstairs. Staff showed you to seats unlike most venues these days! Made a difference to my other Plant concerts this year London Astoria and Birmingham Academy both dumps with security to match.
Arthur Brown again support and did fine job although no mic at start of 1st number and a couple of people seemed to heckle throughout. He dealt with them admirably.
Plant again in fine voice and seemed to enjoy show. The set list mentioned above and first half most enjoyable with good versions of Down by the Sea, Morning Dew. Second half really got going with Ramble On which was superb. The audience well into it by this stage. Special mention for last 2 songs also superbly performed. Encore also excellent particularly WLL. Lots of mentions of Kylie throughout and House is not a motel dedicated to Arthur and Kylie now theres a thought! Also must mention the light show which I dont remember at Birmingham
at all. Gave lots of atmosphere throughout. Finally noticed some video cameras in use although someone only 3/4 rows from front had his confiscated half way through. Dont know how it took so long for security to spot. Thats it for me with Plant this year. Lets see what next year brings?
