Well we finally got WLL after 2 nights of it not being played !! Robert came out later than usual (about 7:50) and was wearing a white button down shirt and blue jeans w/ tennis shoes. There was not much talking tonight on his part and he seemed to be in a great mood. The Garden was very full this time when he started and did not take long to fill up. This performance was much more energized than opening night. A few random thoughts: “Celebration” was tighter than the last few shows; “Morning Dew” was very fast paced and not so mellow; “Calling to You” was also very tight and provided a great workout for the band; BIGLY received the best reaction of his numbers; and WLL was the right way to leave the crowd.(sorry to all who love Song to the Siren but it does not make for a good set closer with these crowds that come to see the Who). Plant even commented “I’ve been here before,you know!” after one of his standing ovations and seemed touched by the crowd. All in all, a solid performance and a marked improvement over his last few but it still cannot compare to Jul.24 Hammerstein NYC.I dont know if any of these shows w/the Who will be as good so if you find a copy of the NYC Hammerstein show I implore you to pick it up as you will rarely find him sounding better than that one.

Robert came out about 7:45. This night MSG was more full than the previous night for Robert. A lot of praise for the Zep songs. Best one of the evening was Going To California. Calling to You was good, reminded me of a ’95 Page/Plant show. WLL as the encore, with the song slowed down for the intro (which I thought was cool), and then into the full version. I thought Robert looked much better compared to his appearance on Letterman. Robert really got the crowd warmed up for The Who. This was a great opener, best one I’ve
seen in a long time for a main act. One could argue, we had 2 main acts – although Robert’s was short.

The band opened with House is not a Motel as an intro to Celebration Day. Robert came out as the chords to Celebration were being played. This was a great show. More energy than the first two nights but only because the band were not prepared for a half full Garden when they came out. I believe people didn’t think the show would start right at 7:30, but it did. So, for the last two shows the band came out around 7:50 and there were more people in their seats. Plant also played, Funny in My Mind and this went over very well. Tall Cool One seemed to get the biggest reaction other than the Encore Whole lotta Love. The crowd did not expect to hear WLL, the reaction was overwhelming. I’m glad he played it. No question NYC loves Robert Plant….
