Setlist: If I Ever Get Lucky/CelebrationDay/MorningDew/GTC/Calling To You/Funny In My Mind-Fixin to Die/4sticks/Tall Cool One/BIGLY. Encore: WLL

Set-List and report from Otto
Wednesday morning our very own Robert Plant arrived in Detroit a couple days early to celebrate and represent for GM’s Cadillac division and their 100 year birthday.
Plant arrived at GM’s downtown HQ at the Reneciance Center towers about 1030am. Cadillac GM and GM Prez Jack Smith both spoke a bit before JJ and Lynn from WCSX introduce Plant to about 200 persons ranging from GM employees who snuk away from their offices or Zep fans like myself hoping to meet the newest Cadillac spokesperson. Plant joked about riding around the states in days of Zep in a 59 Cadillac and wondered aloud if he had ever ‘performed’ in front of a crowd this early in the day. His speech opened with a resounding, “Good Evening! Oops, I mean good morning.” Plant did an on air interview, cut a giant b-day cake that was shared by all and penned autographs for about and hour. He spoke and shook hands for a long line of fans and even posed for some pics. All-in-all a nice morning gig for everyone! There were a few Zephile videographers capturing the proceedings on tape. Look for their arrival soon!

And Now the gig…
Welcome back to Detroit! Tonight’s arena was at 90% capacity when Plant and Co. hit the stage at 7:40pm in the Palace of Auburn Hills. Unlike some earlier reports of performing to small numbers of early arriving Who fans, Detroit was anxious for Percy’s latest showing. Celebration Day got most of us on our feet and GTC brought the rest standing. Clive Deamer was very tight on Four Sticks. BIGLY ended the set to a standing ovation. Encore WLL closed the hour long set and charged all for the upcoming Who onslaught. Tonight’s cliche: Detroit city has the greatest rock and rock audiences in the world.

Just got back from Detroit. Last nights show was great. Neither Robert nor The Who will soon forget the reception they received in Motown. From standing ovations to singing along, this crowd was pumped. Robert played for just over an hour with a standard set that included Zepp Favs, Celebration Day, Going to California, Four Sticks, BIGLY, and WWL encore. I also remember Funny in my Mind, Morning Dew(the speeded up version), Tall Cool One, and Calling to You. I’m pretty sure he opened with If I Ever Get Lucky plus one other new tune in the middle I didn’t recognize. Robert looked good in white shirt and purple pants. Usual Plantation “Do ya feel alright” just like ’70 shows. Comments on enjoying being back in Detroit and Detroit responded with a huge standing ovation to bring on the encore and another huge ovation after.

Nobody seems to comment on The Who but I’ll throw in that they were awesome. 2 hrs 15min with encores and they were definitely impressed with the sheer volume of the crowd and the craziness. When they came back for the encore Pete asked if we’d gotten babysitters because they were going to play the entire Tommy rock opera, after a few seconds of pondering he said well maybe a few selections from Tommy and we got three killer tunes. On a side note they were showing the crowd on the big screens before the encore and some groupie in the front row showed her tits for a while… long enough to get Roger to thank her for her breasts after the encore. Ahh just like the good old days. Don’t miss this excellent double header show!
