Robert was in great spirits last night too! Lots of stories between songs. Robert still has the powerful voice, and this band is great live too, BUT: I thought this show was too short (1 hour, 40 minutes). The band really should have delivered a couple more songs.

Second, the set list. Dave Linwood hit the nail on the head in reviewing the April 27 BBC show with his comment: “Eight numbers are played from the new album, I suspect there will be a few collectors items (i.e. rarely played again live in the future) amongst them.” How right you’ve been Dave, and frankly, it’s a shame. No Another Tribe, no Freedom Fries, would love to have heard a first airing of Dancing in Heaven. Oh well.

Third, too much of the same Zep songs in this show, considering his whole catalog. Gallows Pole was great in 95, 98, but now I’m bored with it. I find it funny that Robert distances himself from the 1976-1985 period of his career too. Despite all the personal tragedies, there’s some wonderful material that needs to be revisited again someday. Slow Dancer really fits in this set list. Given the sort of bluesy feel (at times) to Mighty Rearranger, latter day tongue in cheek Zep like Candy Store Rock or South Bound Saurez would be fun to hear on stage too.

But, having seen him 15 or so times over the years, he still puts on a great show. Thanks Robert! See you in LA at the Greek next week!
