I saw Robert Plant for the second time on this tour, the first one in Camden N.J. This show was much more tight but loose than the first one I saw in Camden. I had 2nd row, Plant came on around 7:40 pm and seemed very energized tonight. I would say it was 80 % full just like Camden. The crowd gave him a warm welcome. If I Ever Get Lucky was the opening song, then he ripped through Celebration Day which I thought was a good version.
The biggest suprise of the night was the way they played Morning Dew, I thought this version should be on the album because it was played very fast with a tight groove to it. I hope we can get a recording of this version. He also dedicated this song to the Deadheads. Robert talked about how it took 3 hours to get from Manhattan to Holmdel which should take 1 hour and he said with a smile it was good to be back in Jersey.
Then he did an acoustic set with Going to California and again I was not expecting Hey Hey What can I do. It was good to see the audience get in to these songs. After this, Tye Dye on the Highway was played followed by Four Sticks. Tall Cool one was next and the show closed out with a very good version of Babe I’m Gonna Leave You.
The encore Whole lotta love was a good version with the Willie Dixon intro but this song needs Pagey, Plant asked everyone if they like the delta blues, or any blues before the song. All in all it was a good night but I wish Robert would play some more songs from Dreamland like he did in Camden, but it seems Robert gave in to the American crowds to play Zeppelin tunes. I say play what you wish, but you have nothing to prove to anyone. He’s a phenomonial talent to see and hear, just keep singing, playing and touring.
