Attended Roberts opening show for the US leg of the tour in Providence last night.I must say his voice is still powerfull and raw!Show opened with a strange reworked No Quarter, and it worked well.The new songs sounded great, Tin Pan Valley stood out the most. A handfull of zep songs thrown in, Levee was reworked and it sounded good.Whole lotta love just amazing, all high notes were on the mark and gutairs were full throttle!Note he didn`t hit the stage till 8:45, there was an opening band.

I have read all the reviews of Plant up to this point from the pre-summer gigs, and I have listened to all of the available bootlegs in preparation for the onslaught of musical genius that Plant was to bring to Providence tonight. However, nothing I read, heard, or saw could have prepared me properly for the intimate setting, texture, and passion that Plant carried with him in his performance. His voice was purely remarkable, hitting the high notes of Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog, and The Mighty Rearranger with relative ease and finesse. What I witnessed last night was a man that was truly enjoying himself and putting his heart and soul into his music. Likewise, Justin Adams and Skin feed of his energy so well in a way that is lightyears beyond blatant rock excess and into the realm of genuine artistic expression and connection. Aside from all of those abstract metaphors listed above, lets get to the good stuff. The highlights of the show were definitely a phenomenal reworking of Gallows Pole that builds up a powerful crescendo at the end, to which my casual Zeppelin friend was floored and speechless! Morning Dew was incredible as well with a beautiful Doors-esque jam session in the middle. The Enchanter and When the Levee Breaks also got the crowd worked up into a frenzy, while Whole Lotta Love was unleashed onto the crowd like a primal beast complete with the classic screams and yells of a timeless artist. Overall, Plant’s social commentary, genuine showmanship, and beautiful vocals should make anybody even remotely on the fence about seeing him this summer rush out and buy a ticket just to witness what pure artistry, integrity, and musical expression is really all about.
