Planet Nicky / Knebworth (what else?) / The Moon

‘’For the next three hours your mother wouldn’t like it’’
Those words, uttered from the Earls Court stage a few feet away from me, around about 8 o clock on May 24th 1975 by an unassuming guy with a beard are ingrained on my brain – a similar announcement on the evening of August 11th 1979 made by the same person is equally as memorable. So it was very heart warming to be face to face last Sunday night with Nicky Horne the man responsible for that statement.
The occasion was the …

Then as it was…
This time there’s no sleeping bags required…
“Mum…” I recall testing the water to see if she was asleep or not that night. “Can I go to see Zeppelin in August pleeeese?”
Negotiations had begun. Living in the backwater of Goole meant that I’d had a pretty sheltered existence and going to gigs hundreds of miles away was by parental permission only. Over the ensuing week Mother undertook a deal of …

Knebworth Countdown / Rainbow / Who

Thirty years ago just about now, I commenced a Knebworth countdown religiously ticking off the days before the big date. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one.
History is somewhat repeating itself as I shape up for another busy August all these years later.
The Knebworth book is nigh on a wrap in terms of design. Martyn and I are just liaising over the final revisions. The last few days have been pretty intensive trying to tie it all up – a big thanks in the direction of Lorraine Robertson and …

Jacko / Glasto / Tennis

I hadn’t slept too well on Thursday even though I went to bed early. I got up around 6am. Gary Foy had sent me an email at 12.04 am. I clicked on and read it – not good news at all as he was informing me that he was also being made redundant in a few weeks from his transport logistics job. He knew it was coming and here’s hoping he can sort something else soon. Tucked within Gary’s email were the following comments:
‘’Just seen news that Jacko may …

Jimmy Page at ‘It Might Get Loud’ premiere in Los Angeles

Jimmy Page was in attendance at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘’It Might Get Loud’’ on June 19 at the Main Festival Theatre in Westwood California.
This report by Stephen Humphries from Los Angeles for TBL:

The film, which gets a cinema release in the USA on August 21, documents the summit meeting of three guitar legends: Page, White, and The Edge.
In the film, the three icons sit on couches in a massive movie studio soundstage and lean toward each other in intimate conversation about their approach to playing the guitar. …

It Might Be Brilliant / More Spot / More Kneb / Get well Gerard

The clips and media coverage of the ‘It Might Get Loud’ film blazed out a simple message in my view.
Jimmy Page has still got it. In spades.
He looked well at ease at the press conference and ever articulate. Even on the few short clips released, this film is sure to be essential viewing. The jam on In My Time Of Dying with Jimmy playing the Gibson Custom looks amazing. Amongst his peers The Edge and Jack White, Jimmy is every bit the regal statesmen of the guitar. With new …
