On the 34th anniversary of Led Zeppelin’s August 11th gig at Knebworth….
Comments, recollections and memories from the second week out in that field…taken from the forthcoming book Led Zeppelin Then As It Was – At Knebworth 1979 written and compiled by Dave Lewis:
“It was an April morning when they told us we should go…”
In late April 1979 the air crackled with an electric expectation; whispers grew to a muted roar and, as the supercharged clouds of rumour gathered, finally the news broke. Full page ads …

John Bonham Memorial Statue Fund Plan:
This via the Redditch Standard
A Fund has been set-up to install a permanent memorial in the town to one of Britain’s greatest musicians and arguably Redditch’s most famous resident.
The John Bonham Memorial Fund will aim to collect as much money as possible to have a statue or sculpture erected in honour of the Led Zeppelin drummer who was born, educated and grew up in Redditch.
It is hoped space will be found within the town centre for the statue, with the bandstand area previously mooted.
The fund …

On the 34th anniversary of Led Zeppelin at Knebworth….
Comments, recollections and memories from out in that field…taken from the forthcoming book Led Zeppelin Then As It Was – At Knebworth 1979 written and compiled by Dave Lewis:
We followed BP Fallon to the Led Zeppelin enclosure.
‘’Where do you want to do a line up shot’’
‘’Er, wherever you like’’ I replied
Beep went into the trailer and out came Jimmy, Robert, Jonesy and Bonzo,
much to Chalkie’s and my surprise. We thought it was too dark to shoot.
‘’No problem, …

The 34th anniversary of Led Zeppelin at Knebworth is upon us this weekend and once again our thoughts will drift back to that golden summer of 1979 when Led Zeppelin performed two unforgettable concerts in the ground of the famous stately home.
The subject matter of that period have been well prevalent here in the last few months as the writing, collation and design of the revised Led Zeppelin Then As It Was – at Knebworth 1979 revamped edition has taken shape.
This weekend’s anniversary is a timely moment to inform you where …

Robert Plant Presents Sensational Space Shifters Wolf Trap review by Suzanne McElyea:
This was a beautiful venue, tucked in the Washington DC suburbs. When I first saw the name, and their logo I thought maybe Robert chose it for his beloved Wolverines. But it was a gorgeous outdoor amphitheater perfectly suited for the evening which began promptly at 8 pm with a band called Bombino. World music artist from Niger, often compared to Hendrix and Santana, this band showed up in traditional Middle Eastern attire. I had often heard Robert talk …

Robert Plant in surprise appearance at Bywater:
This story via wwltv.com:
NEW ORLEANS — Monday night wasn’t a normal night at BJ’s in the Bywater. Most nights aren’t. But this Monday night was a special treat for a few lucky souls when rock icon and former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant stopped by Guitar Lightning Lee’s gig at the tiny club on Burgundy Street and sat in.
And, of course, in the digital age, rumors were abuzz Tuesday on social media and …

Robert Plant Presents Sensational Space Shifters
July 12: Chicago, IL – Taste of Chicago
There is nothing like the excitement in the minutes before the Golden God takes the stage. People start to watch all movements very carefully. They get on their feet. The band comes out, then starts to play. A little Spanish guitar and still no sign of Robert. Great rhythms. No Robert. Then the first recognizable notes of Babe, I’m Going to Leave You and Robert takes the mic. They stand, sway …

Yesterday I met with legendary writer/author Charles Shaar Murray for an interview for the next TBL magazine. I’ve been looking to hook up with Charles for some time and during our interview we discussed his early writing career at the underground magazine Oz, how he got to play on the Oz benefit single in the company of John Lennon, his reviews of Led Zeppelin in the NME, Rolling Stones, Who, Beatles etc. He also added great insight into the times he saw Zep in LA in 1973 and at the Kezar stadium …
