Them Crooked Vultures started early and played long, changing up the setlist from their performance at Stubb’s the night before and leaving a wake of jaws on floors from a crowd that was entirely unfamiliar with their sound. Speaking of sound, they were far and away the loudest band to set foot on ACL grounds thus far. 100 yards away, waiting for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to begin on the AMD …

Aftermath: Them Crooked Vultures at Stubb’s in Austin
Craig Hlavaty in Live Shots
Just a few short hours ago Aftermath saw the rock world’s newest supergroup in action as Queens of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme, ex-Nirvana drummer/current Foo Fighters helmer Dave Grohl, and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones took the stage at Stubb’s in Austin for a warm-up gig before this afternoon’s Austin City Limits festival appearance. The whole place was buzzing like I haven’t seen for a support act since Soundgarden and Fait No More supported GnR back in 1992.
At 19:45 sharp they …

Abu Dhabi Womad Festival

Really enjoyed the show. The last time my wife and I together saw Robert was at Knebworth in 1979. We were not at the front then but we were on the beach in Abu Dhabi. The show was relaxed and the crowd were not. They were out to see Mr Plant and they were not disappointed. Some of the Middle Eastern guys knew the words and sang to Rock and Roll. The encore started with Whole Lotta Love and went into something Arabic which they understood and I did not. …
