WEMBLEY ’79/LED JEDWARD ’09/WEMBLEY ’71

I’ve never been much good at taking photos as the one above confirms. It may not be in with a shout of greatest sports pic in the world ever, but it’s a genuine all action reminder of a memorable afternoon thirty years ago
My old trusty Olympus trip just about captured the moment R. Plant rounded the advancing goalkeeper Martin Day (sorry West Ham fans!) to net a rather fine goal in his teams 3-1 win over LBC Radio.  The occasion was the Annual Sun/Goaldiggers five a side football tournament at …

Tribute Bands/Bikes (again)/NME/Vultures

Ten years ago this weekend along with  my good friends Tom and Gary (and Terry and Kam), I watched England triumph over Scotland 2-0 on Saturday afternoon (sorry Billy!) Then we all ventured to Birmingham in a mini bus driven by the Foy boy to witness Robert and the Priory Of Brion performing in the lounge bar of the Kings Heath Red Lion pub.
Ten years on history is repeating itself sort of, as later today we will soak up a bit of the England v Brazil friendly then venture out …

Stamps / Photos / Playlists / Song Remains

Very nice to see the Led Zeppelin 4 album artwork will be a part of the ten British classic album cover designs to be featured on a set of Royal Mail stamps launched on January 7th next year. Used to be a bit of a stamp collector way back in my youth, and I did indulge in The Beatles commemorative album art work stamps that were issued a couple of years back. The latter came in a superb presentation set and I’m sure the Classic Album Designs will be similarly …

More From Eddie Kramer …

…On JPJ, Bonzo and Led Zep 2 40 Years On…

In an exclusive interview conducted by Dave Lewis, Eddie Kramer the director of engineering and mixing on Led Zeppelin 2, reflected on the making of the album 40 years on.
Eddie was quick to give due recognition to John Paul Jones and John Bonham
for their contributions to the album:
‘’Something like Thank You with the long fade was down to John Paul Jones. He was something of an unsung hero of the band.
Foe me Heartbreaker is a stand out. The solo was …

Unledded 15 years ago / Howard / Bikes / Cars / Books / 1975

October 17 is a date I remember well because I have an old T-shirt tucked away emblazoned with that date and nothing else. It’s a remnant from the old record company promotional era when all manner of goods were distributed to generate publicity. In this case, these T. shirts were handed out for us to wear at the Our Price shop the day boy band East 17’s Steam album was released on October 17 1994.
With respect to E17, I had a more pressing evening engagement that Monday of 15 …

TBL 24 Soon / Beatles / Ramble on

Spend the last few days wading through the proofs of the new Tight but Loose magazine. Apologies for the late arrival of this issue but it’s now at the printers and nearly ready to go. Once again there are some great contributions – Mike Tremaglio’s Led Zeppelin US summer of ‘69 festival log clarifies exactly when and where they played outdoors that summer and is a fascinating read. In the Collector Focus spot, Nick Anderson explains how he has come to amass one of the largest collections of Zep singles …

Vultures / Football / Tennis / Cycling / Birthdays / 53 at 53

Well Sam didn’t get to see Them Crooked Vultures as they performed on the Saturday at Reading. However, in a strange quirk of fate, long time TBL supporter Gary Wade’s son Josh did do as he attended The Leeds Festival on the Friday and rated TCV set as the highlight of the day. Co- incidentally both Sam and Josh were born within a day of each other at Bedford north wing hospital in 1990. Now they are off doing the festival thing just as their Dad’s did 30 years ago.
I …

It was 30 years ago today…

30 years ago today, I and thousands of others, were in that field just outside Stevenage eagerly awaiting the live return of Led Zeppelin.
30 years on it’s been like a lifetime… but a second.
Think of Knebworth and the images remain vivid: The campsite,
Tommy Vance’s Friday night rock show filling the air, chants of ‘’Zeppelin’’,’’Zeppelin’’ , the early morning rush for the gates, the long wait during the day ,Skynyrd’s Tuesdays Gone fading from the PA. the screen unfolding…and there in the light performing The Song Remains The Same, Led Zeppelin …
