John Paul Jones and |Jimmy Page were in both attendance at the sixth annual Marshall Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards staged at London’s Roundhouse last night.
Following sets by The Union and Alter Bridge (the latter featured guest guitarist Slash), the awards got underway with Alice Cooper as master of ceremonies along with co presenter Sarah Cawood.

Robert Plant’s Band Of Joy album made an excellent first week showing on the UK official album charts entering at number 3 in the UK (the highest for a Plant album since Pictures At Eleven). In the United States it sold 49,000 copies in its first week of release to debut at position No. 5 on The Billboard 200 chart. Black Country Communion’s album topped the UK’s Rock album chart in its first week and also entered the national UK chart at 13.

Nearly missed the gig as my flight from Azerbaijan was late and made me miss my connection in Frankfurt….here my little review and pictures from an ace night.

Dave Rawlings is best known for playing second banjo to his partner Gillian Welch but Dave Rawlings Machine is his opportunity to take charge and, in this support slot to his friends, associates and sometime band mates Old Crow Medicine Show, it looked like he might run away with all the glory.

I can remember exactly where I was when the news of Jimi Hendrix death came through 40 years ago tomorrow. I was listening to the Tommy Vance Friday What’s New programme as I did most Fridays back then eager to hear the latest single releases. Around 5pm the announcement was made on the BBC Radio One news and Tommy went on to provide a fitting tribute to the guitar legend noting the inconsistencies of his performances over the past year.
