Robert Plant, opened a new Wyre Forest centre with a ceremonial cutting of a branch. At the official opening of the Gateway to Wyre community discovery centre at Callow Hill, near Bewdley, Robert, said: “I have lived around here all my life and often spent eons of time in this beautiful environment and appreciate its value to us as local people.

“It is a beautiful backdrop and place of peace and rest. Due to industry, it is a small miracle that we can enjoy it. I can’t imagine a more dynamic beautiful building for this setting. It will be a centre point for information.”

Before sawing the branch, Mr Plant pretended to cut through the stand he had been speaking from and joked “it used to be TV sets  out of windows” that he damaged.

The centre features a sensory garden, bird observatory and classrooms designed to expand visitors’ knowledge of the region’s abundant natural history.

The building is heated by wood chippings from the forest, rain water is collected for the toilets and sewage is managed with a reed bed system.

The project was largely supported by a grant of just over £1.8 million by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), under its landscape partnership programme.

Bob Griffiths, project manager for the Wyre Forest landscape partnership scheme, said: “The discovery centre is a fantastic new building that gives us the ability to involve both local people, and those living further away in more urban areas, and give them a greater understanding of the wonderful natural world here at the Wyre Forest.”

Personally I think Robert has so much more interesting music he could make. I am not too thrilled with this hillbilly kick, rocking chair on the front porch mode he is in. Too many people have been down that road too. I would say take some of what he started to explore with Shaken & Stirred, add in some Massive Attack/Radio Head influence and a dose of his spices out of Africa and he could have something really interesting. He needs to find a new gap as he is much better innovating than he is doing retreads IMHO. But I respect that he is always out there pushing himself and if this is what he wants who the heck am I to say anything…

Robert really appears to be enjoying life. Despite the demands and expectations on him to something he no longer is (Plant ala 68-75) he just happily goes about his way and pursues projects that opens new doors. I am so happy he didnt do the reunion tour, we been down that road back in the 70’s and I believe it is best to leave that in the past. I hope he continues to produce new material for as long as possible. Cheers to you Robert for being a really special person and a major influence in the world of entertainment!!

Greatest Artists of all time….and Elvis isn’t in the top five, yuk. Zeppelin of course should be #1, but of course I would say that; in reality if not for Scotty Moore and Jimmy’s fascination with the guitar who knows if there would have been a Zeppelin, thanks Elvis. Would love to be at The Key Club for John’s tribute.

swap MJ for Elvis , put Zep at 1 , the Beatles at 2 and that looks pretty good to me

The Stones and Zeppelin should have placed higher than MJ and the Bugs, Mj was strictly pop and no substance and the Bugs were a one-dimensional band that continues to be highly overated by my genaration and not in the same league talent wise as Zepp and the Stones who were all superior musicians…Peace from the US…..
