Reports:
This from Stephen Bailey
“Went to see Robyn Hitchcock on Sunday night (March 2) at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London and a very big suprise guest at the show was John Paul Jones (so much of a suprise that I didn’t have my camera with me), he played during most of the second half of the set and the last couple of songs from the first set. Mainly he played mandolin, but he also played one of his own songs “Ice Fishing At Night” on piano along with Peter Blegvad and Robyn Hitchcock on guitars. The songs I can remember him playing on are as follows:
Balloon Man, America, The Banana Song, Dark Princess, Open The Door Homer as well as is own and another one from Peter Blegvad. You could hear the band practice both Dark Princess and Balloon Man prior to the show starting.”

This from Simon Cadman, Independent Radio News
A fresh sighting of JPJ. The bass legend’s performed at the fiftieth birthday bash of cult hero Robyn Hitchcock at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. He was on stage for around an hour, playing bass and mandolin on around a dozen songs – including She Said She Said by The Beatles. Jonesy also sang and played grand piano on his very own Ice Fishing at Night. JPJ turned out wearing all black shirt and troosers – plus Cuban heels. He appeared pretty relaxed, turning up late for the encore and chuckling during Hitchcock’s inter-song monologues.
And how have the pair ended up playing together on the same stage? Only a theory, but Jones arranged REM’s Automatic For The People, and REM are huge fans of Robyn Hitchcock.
