JPJ and company successfully presented another great combination of fresh Zeppelin arrangements as well as rocking Zooma and Thunderthief material. The sold out Royal Oak Theatre show provided a glimpse into the past as well as a look to the future and again established Jones as a great multi-instrumentalist.
Jonesy surprised the audience with his vocal competence during That’s The Way and again with a new number from Thunderthief called Freedom Song which was a uke/vocal solo. The rest of the set was a rock-driven assault by all members of the band. It was great to see Jonesy getting off on rocking out. He was genuinely excited and appreciative of audience reaction to both the Zep classics as well as his solo material.
Hoediddle is a new song showcasing another Hugh Manson invention, a mini four string electric. Jones jokingly noted that “Hugh Manson keeps building ‘em, so I have to keep playing them. What’s next!?!” Nick on Chapman stick and Terl on drums more than complimented JPJ on every song as their admiration for John Paul was only surpassed by their musicianship and enthusiasm. This tour is a must see.
