Grohl’s star shines, even at the back on drums
Reviewed by Bernard Zuel from the Sydney Morning Herald and
IT IS easy to forget that Dave Grohl was and is something other than the  charming frontman and guitarist for Foo Fighters. He does it rather successfully too. But when you …

Crowd feasts on Them Crooked Vultures
Review by DANIEL NANCARROW from The Brisbane Times

It’s not often you see a rock god in the flesh, let alone three – each with varying claims to rock divinity – bashing it out on one stage.
But Them Crooked Vultures isn’t your average band. They’re an all-star fusion of baby boomer bassist, gen-X drummer and modern day frontman who combine to form a rumbling, thunderous, timeless whole.
Singer/guitarist Josh Homme greets the crowd with a simple mission statement, which proves an acknowledgment of …

In John Thomson’s post on Friday’s Melbourne show, he said his 16 year-old  son commented “that was truly good as.”   I think my (much younger) boys’ take on the common Australian expression could be applied to last night’s (Saturday) show – “That show was better than as!”
Walking on stage to wild applause, …

Last night was truly a great show from Them Crooked Vultures.  It was a hot 36 degree day from Melbourne with the venue being the old Festival Hall.– A venue I had not been to before but famous for The Beatles playing there. Being so old, there was no air conditioning and the drinks queues …

Them Crooked Vultures Challenge Stadium, Perth, Australia

Them Crooked Vultures review
This review by Ashlee Crabbe is taken from WA Today.com

This week it was Perth’s job to welcome super-group of the noughties Them Crooked Vultures to Australia.
The frantic crowd was cheering as soon as the Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones and Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme stepped foot on stage.
When frontman Homme took the microphone and shouted “are you ready to have a good time?”, the crowd were quick to answer.
Opening the night at Challenge Stadium were local boys The …

DAVE LEWIS DIARY: FIFTH DECADE/MOJO/SNOW/ELVIS/DYLAN

The young DL looks to the East-  Cologne June 18 1980 -pic Tom Locke
It hadn’t occurred to me until Steve A. Jones noted it in the comments of the last Diary entry, that this is the commencement of my fifth decade of chronicling the world of Led Zeppelin.
The fifth decade has duly got off to a great start. The arrival of the new Mojo magazine with its inspiring Jimmy Page interview had me rushing to get some of that old Page magic back on the deck.
Cue everything from The …

DAVE LEWIS DIARY: A HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM ME TO YOU

DL, the visiting Larry Bergmann Jnr and the good lady Janet- Knebworth book launch weekend in the TBL HQ kitchen, Totnes Close Bedford August 9th 2009

On the late morning of January 1st 2000, ten years back, my good friend Terry Boud and I mulled over the previous night’s festivities with a new year’s day pint (or two). We were both nursing massive hangovers and hair of the dog was required.
iPods, podcasts, Blu-ray, Wi –Fi, digital downloads, e commerce, HD, iPhones You tube and Facebook were not on the agenda that …
